Was wondering if I run a Mechanical fan below the radiator about 1 1/2" matters?
And are there any consequences to doing so?

  2. As long as you have 2 or more inches of clearance, hoses etc. also a fan shroud will help a lot pulling air.

My fan sits about 2 inches below radiator , I have about 1/2" to 3/4" clearance between fan and bottom rad hose . Im using a 16" mechanical fan. My temp was running a little high so I added a fan shroud and lowered temp . I'm not saying this is how it should be done but this works for me.

running fan larger than radiator does not benefit cooling - better to run a shorter fan with a full shroud - LEE CHRISTENSEN=you need to change your avatar

A shroud is a must for optimum cooling.

The engine returns the hot water to the top of the radiator , cooling should be focused up to the top , that is why a shroud is preferred .
