Hey everyone im new here and i wanted to start a post about my old 53 Dodge Coronet.

I came here looking for answers and i have found so many answers to questions i had just by using the search function here. So thanks to all of you for taking the time to put the info out there for us newbs.

Ive worked on cars since i was old enough to hold a wrench, but im only 33 so these old cars are way before my time. I understand the basics and am slowly getting orientated with my I6 3.8l and the Fluid Drive trans i have in this beast.

Last weekend i got my old 53 running and rolling down the road. Old simple mechanics just work...even after they sit a few years. Its amazing. If this had been a new car i would have had hundreds of dollars in "ZOMG-the -computer-wont-work" sensors to replace.....

But i do have some specific questions.

1)There is a grease fitting ****** on my water pump. I refilled it with grease, because there is a sound like a deep "WHIRRRRR" coming from the front of the engine. Im pretty sure its the pump.

From first glance this pump looks rebuild able. Is this ***umption right? Where can i get a kit for it?

    2) There is a pet**** valve located on the block (drivers side) its inbetween the crankcase vent tube and the distributer. is this a flush valve for the water ways or for the oil?

Thanks ill update this thread as i go along, im sure ill have more questions.

The valve on the side of the block is for water. Oil drains out the bottom of the pan. Had those engines for years, but can't remember a grease fitting on the water pump. I'm sure you can get a kit or new water pump. They ran those engines up into the sixties in anything that required reliability from industrial water pumps to combines.

    Have fun.

    Good luck and have fun.
