    1. MEL V8 to early FORD flathead manual 3spd

    2. MEL V8 to late FORD flathead manual 3spd

    3. MEL V8 to 50's Studebaker manual 4spd?

Are the MEL and FE trhe same?

  2. If you mean "are the MEL & FE the same trans case pattern"....yes, & no.

'58-'60 uses the straight FE pattern.....'61 uses a modified FE with a relocated starter, & a unique bell for that year, if going into another Lincoln....'62-'65 uses the same modified FE, & the bell is the same between all those years of Lincoln...'66-'67 uses two patterns, modified FE, & the unique "trapezoid" C6 Lincoln pattern.

The modified FE pattern used 1961-65 (and also present '66-'67 but not used) is very difficult to adapt to FE. No one really tries to go that way as there isn't much point, normally....FE bells are common enough. Usually people want to know if the FE bell can be adapted to a '61-'67 MEL, and the answer is, under certain circumstances, possibly. Fabrication is involved.

As to what they are worth, I guess it depends on the pattern....the FE pattern would make them more flexible & maybe worth more. The '61-'67 pattern...only to the right person...& probably not much even then. Never know, though.
