But after 56 years you can't be sure. "it says mercury on the heads" don't mean a thing. Back in the 50's rebuild shops used what ever crank was next in line.
All U.S. made '49-'53 Mercs left the factory with a 4" crank. Then people started swapping heads, cranks and other parts from engine to engine. Just because an engine says Mercury on the heads does not mean it has a Mercury engine or crankshaft underneath. The only way to tell for sure is to measure the stroke.
