Since no one seems to want to trade for my 51, I was wondering what other Merc owners do for brakes on theirs. Rebuild the stock setup, which isn't all that bad, or are there some tips and tricks that I could use to help get this thing mobile soon. Master cylinder upgrades, etc.??

I just used all stock stuff on the 49 fronts, have 8inch rear. Stops fine!.........OLDBEET

  3. When I had disks put on my 51, I had the spindles turned down to fit mid 70's monte carlo. You might look at Jamco, they have kingpin to spindle conversions.

on my 51, i completely rebuilt the stock set-up, and mounted a master cylinder & booster from a 1979 monte carlo on the firewall(actually the booster is from the 79 and the master cylinder is from a 1977 monte)..i did that because in the 79 the m/c & booster sit on an angle and the m/c is an angled style whereas the 77 sits level...i had to legnthen the pedal about 6 inches...i've had 7 years of trouble free driving with this set-up..i think the stock brakes are more than adequate, of course the power assist helps.....bob
