merc chassis doner

let's here of some of what everone thinks is the best doner car for a ch***is swap for 49-50 merc's??????????

I haven't done one yet, I have a 77 Olds in my yard, that's what everyone uses but I don't know when Ill get to it. Some people Ive talked to that have done it say it rides great but not worth all the work/wouldnt do it again.

 

NONE !!!!! The stock merc frame is the best.

Theres no reason to do a ch***ie swap on a merc, Unless you donot have one or you car has very badly rusted floors and frame. If you decide to do a ch***ie swap the mid 70's early 80's olds / buick wagon works ok. But they are much weaker than the stock mercs frame so box the main rails and add a x member to it. Also the front wheel with is about 2" wider than the stock mercs so front tire clearnce is an issue on low setting cars.

 

I guess you have never driven a merc! They are one of the best driving cars ever built, why anyone would mess with them is beyond me, drive one BEFORE cutting it up! Jim

 

Stock Merc is best....if you HAVE to have a modern front end try Fatman or other sources for a front clip.

Disc brake conversions are available for the Merc...
