Hi- does anyone know what has to be done to a 4 inch merc crank to adapt it to a 1936 lb 21 stud flathead- is it necessary to grind the block for interference with rods- can the 49-53 rods be used. Thanks in advance- chuck

Pick up a copy of Tex Smiths "The complete Ford flathead V8" book there is a write up on putting a Merc crank in a 21 stud block. Good luck!

Honesty, why wast the time and money on a 21 stud? You'd be money and time ahaed to use a 42-48 style, more parts availability, and less cost to build. Just my opinion.

I know- I said the same thing but the fellow who wants it done is buiding a 27 roadster and has all the vintage pieces- Evans heads and two two intake etc- It is a lot of money for nothing to me but that is what he wants so here we go. thanks chuck

yeah, but when we get into these situations we never know how tough we will need to be, but it hurts when we find out- it is just one mistake after another-chuck
