I knew that when I dropped the frame on the Merc that there would be some modifications to be made but I wasn't prepared for this...

I believe that I can make this work but has anyone ever fabricated a new "X"-member for a Merc?
The floor will have to have a tunnel added but at least it won't have to be too tall because the IRS doesn't need alot of room for the driveshaft to move vertically...

    doesn't look too difficult,

how about fabbing just the center section out of 3/16" sheet?

or splitting a piece of 8 or 10 inch diameter tube and adding flat sides out of the 3/16 plate?

Thanks JT...I still have some work to do on the rear section of the frame. I need to remove the first sections that I welded over the IRS and replace them with sections that don't rise up so high in the area of the back seat. Also need to mount the Shockwaves but that will need some custom fabbed lower mounts first. I'm shooting for the 4th of July for the body...

Looks to me like you can damn near go straight across underneath the U'joint, with a bit of a dip in the middle for movement clearance.
Wait, you have IRS right? you don't need room for movement other than the motormount's movment.

thats pretty much what i have done.. however I think Id move the x member way out toward the sides of the ch***is and square it off, then make a drop out center section so if you ever have trans probs like I did you can pull the trans from the bottom and you will not need to yank the motor to do so.. good luck

    looks good so far
