Projects Merc guy's question

Hey guy's, I hope this copy of the parts book comes out OK.

Take a look at part # 17794. This is a SS pan that install just under the 49 Merc grill on the original grill pan, it was installed on the assembly line as an option in 49. Have any of you Merc guy's ever seen on in person?

I had heard about it but had never seen one until recently and still not sure if it came from Merc. until I was just sent this pic out of the parts book Anyone have an info on it?

 

I've never seen one or even heard of it before, I'd be curious to know what it looks like though.

Side note, I'm still blown away that no one reproduces the 8190 panel (grille shell) in steel. It's shocking how little sheetmetal is available for these Mercs, when you consider how popular they are.

I have one. I was going to put it on, but my Merc has gone through so much kustom work it wont fit. I refuse to cut the rare accessory up. If you are interested let me know.

 

Do you know what you have and how rare they are? At the last Pomona Swap Meet there was one going for $2,000.00 My Merc is a 51 and these were a 49 only accessory.
