any time I talk to Anthony it blows my mind that he knows almost every merc built between 1949 to 1980 any where in the country along with who owns it where it is and what has been done to it. his photo collection of mercs is even better. Now i just have to teach him how to scan and post them.

    Great Post!!!

I remember when I saw the Purple Merc with the Candy green flames at my first Starbird show. I was 14 years old and it was love at first sight. Looking back at the Merc now, there are things that I would have done different.
I've been told you will always remember the first one. When I saw pictures of Garlits Merc in a magazine I knew that it was something special......

Thanks Mack 00 for the info, I was wondering what happen to the sled.

Praise the Lowered Merc, with the wild back end looked a lot better when they painted it red. When it drove in at the 2nd Merc Deuce Reunion it turned some heads.

At the same show in Wichita, a gray '51 Merc, that was slammed on the ground, called the Canadian kid?

    What happen to that Merc?

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

The last I heard, Larry Kramer went to Nashville to do custom work for Country Music stars, and went bankrupt. He's supposed to be working as a maintenance guy at a body shop in Westchester, just north of Cincy. (Not doing body work)

The above car was not built by the great Larry Kramer but by Dave Auten jr.
The Canadian Kids Merc is now orange with the same scallops and in the states

The maroon 51 was built by Joe Maneri and owned by Ernie Roth at the time and today it looks the same. The chopped and sectioned 48 Chevy was built by the late George Dorr. The pink 50 with exteded 11/4 panels and Plymouth taillights was an awesome car called Half Breed.(49/51)As most of us know,Mr Merc sold the olsd Bailon car and it is now a billitized abortion.

I think the 51 Chevy was owned by a guy named Steve Scott and had a beautiful set of 50 Olds taillights frenched into it.

  9. Oops, forgot to post this blue Merc.

    Glad everyone enjoyed this!

    Joel :)

p.s. I don't know why I have only this shot of this radical '57 Chevy. Anybody have a front shot?

Speaking of Dave Auten Jr. What ever happened to that Blue(Green) 50 merc convt that was at the 50th GNRS. As I remember it was either blue or green depending on which way you looked at it.

Good god 00 Mack, I can't even remember my neighbors name and I've lived next door to him for more than 8 years.

Do you have this stuff written down and cataloged or is it all just jammed in your head?

If you do have it catalogued, it would make a pretty damn cool book - like a Custom Registry or sumthin.

I wasn't around the HAMB back in '05 when this thread was started...and just found it today...FYI, that particular Merc was built by Ed Banes here in Denver...the trunk opened backward and the hood was punched full of louvers to match the rears...the taillights were out of a Datsun...

I lettered the "Praise the Lowered" on the quarters...first time that particular saying was ever used way back in 1982...and it didn't take long to get spread around the US...matter of fact, I was at that event and buttons with that saying on it appeared the same weekend...the car was painted Candy Red and won many awards before it got sold...think it went to Georgia.

Anyway, Ed Banes continues to build and upholster cars yet today...I've attached a pic of his latest kustom...

and he also did the interior in my '55 Cadillac...

He does the upholstery in all of my cars. The Ford above is for sale now as he's got a line on another Merc...he's built and owned several Mercs and has been a true Kustom guy all his life..
