Has anyone used the ring and pinion from a Merc to set up their QC? It is my understanding that the drive shaft and pinion were welded together. Was this done along with the coupler or without? did the pinions still have the 6 splines cut? Anyone have a picture of this?

Earlier Mercs had pinion made integral with driveshaft. No weld, no coupler. Never messed with one, but a Merc fanatic told me they had enough diameter to be cut and splined just like the regular 2-piece kind. The one-oiece setup was not serviced for long, Merc parts counter had kits with regular Ford parts and a driveshaft of correct length.

As Bruce says ,all a one piece shaft from pinion gear to universal, no problems cutting it off and re splining to regular length. These are too long for anything but Mercury.
