as for me, i think when i chop mine (way off in the next century) I think i'll be different and leave my '51 rear window in. The book of love merc and hirohata merc proove that it CAN be done and look good, maybe people just aren't used to seeing them?

To me the BEST 51 Merc EVER with the most perfect flow is Tinwolf here on Hamb 51 Merc from Sweden..that thing is intriguing and flows amazingly...***i!You have to see it live to appreciate it,very tricky...

Btw,is the same car above posted by RPW...Rickster,posyt some cool pix here,please....

The most impressive detail is the car is a runing project for more than 10 years and stil give goosebumps anytime i see it...

Hirohata Merc is an historical car,no doubt and hat off to it.BUT still the back window does NOT flow properly...my 2 cents. Sled

Think how much you'll save on fenders, fender wells, hood etc. I got a grill shell for a 35 chevy laying around. Maybe I'll just use that instead.

I'm going with the 49/50 rear window in my 51 too. I just like the look of it better. One thing I've seen is to flip the 51 rear window upside down. Has anyone seen this done? Maybe someone has a pic? In the end though, just go with what YOU think looks best.

Here is a Merc that was at Sacramento (not in the Merc building) that has an upside down 51 rear window. I had wondered in my mind if that would work. After seeing it, I personally don't like the how the top of the window looks as the bottom. That said, I will cast my vote for a 51 window on a chopped 51.....I just like 'em. :)

I kinda like a 49 back window on a 51...To me those two vertical bars mimic the fender peaks on the 51....Any pics of this? I can`t recall any that were done offhand...

Just wondering who built the Merc thats in "Book of Love"? And is it still around?

  13. Re Tinwolf Merc.

I think having it pillarless makes the world of difference to the flow of the back window.
The '51 window just looks better in this format.
Not really liking the '51 window on a chopped pillared merc.

    .

  14. That, to me. looks sooo wrong.

    .

just a quick recap on what the book of love merc looks like and how well its done

  18. Many years back I did a quarter extension for a customer. Finding a 51 to cut them off of was not happening so I went to a Big freight Truck wearhouse and bought 2, 6" exhaust 90 degree bends. It was amazing how well that worked and the 54 Merc taillight lenses fit very nicely. Something to think about and look at verses finding a 51 Donner car these days.

That right there is a good lookin' chop. That back window just fits right in there. When whoever did the chop on my 51, they slid the window forward and it leaves a big, flat panel between the window and the trunk....not to mention a hump with the curve of the gl*** sticking up. I like it better with the window left back and a bit more upright like that one....the curve of the gl*** flows much better. Someday, I'm gonna cut the rear window back out of mine and put it back right.....and hardtop it. ;)

  24. Now I dont think this merc would look nearly as good if it had a 50 rear window. This window fits this car perfect.

i hate to say it but im just not vibin' the hardtop treatment, the chop is great...hardtop not my thing

  26. I can take or leave the '51 rear window, it's the overall that counts for me. I like my car, but hopefully my changes will make the car look more like what I have in my head.

I wish that roof was mine, but its not...
(though, my plan is a similar roof on my own project, but that is yet to be realized)
