Here's my word on a 51 back gl***. They look awsome on a mild chop 3" to 4' with no more than 5" taken out of the rear and the window is moved to flow with the new roof line.

Cut it any lower and it will never flow nicely. lower than 5" its time to think about a 49 50 window.

Go Lower than 8" in the rear it time to go with something else like this 49 with a ford shoe box

  4. Now that is a fastback chopped merc right there. nice flow

I am with you on your thoughts. Our 51 has a **** Deans gentlemans chop of 3.5" vertical. Street Rodder Mag. did an article on **** Dean chopping on 51 this way. It was in 1989 July and August issues.
Before cutting our Merc I contacted **** about this article and he talked to me for hours about it on the phone. One special man. The article is well done with schematics and measurments and complete.
**** called this a gentlemans chop because it allowed the roof line flow still using the 51 backlight. Also he had alot of small interesting cuts and ideas on the SS pinch molding chopping.
Find these two issues and get a masters thoughts. Hope it helps
