Features Merc tail light decorations

I found a set of 49-51 Merc tail lights for sale and one of them had a chrome bullet on the round part of the lense. Was this a common thing, are they still made? I don't want to look lop-sided

The reflector was broken out or turned white, so someone stuck a bullet in there to replace it ....

 

Probably someone's ideal of customizing or as 302GMC said covering up a broken reflector. Personally I'd rather have the reflector working as if it is a dark painted Merc you might not see anything in the headlights except those reflectors until you are pretty close while pulling in behind one.

 

I have seen bicycle reflectors put in there to replace the originals.
