I bought a Mercruiser aluminum valve cover to put on my Chevy 230 6 cylinder I am building. I want to remove the paint and polish the cover. It is currently painted black, and I am having a heck of time trying to get the paint off. I have been putting kleen-strip Strip "X" on it with very little happening. Any other thoughts of what will take it off?

    Thanks,
    Lee

It's probably powder coated........maybe ask your local powder coat emporium best way to remove it.

If ya' have an oven outdoors, about 375-385 should kill the powder coating, but it will STINK!!!!!!

I googled how to remove powder coating and ended up buying kleen strip aircraft stripper and placing plastic over the valve cover. I let it sit for a few hours and that seems to be doing the trick. If I had an oven outdoors I would have tried that. I also read about using Permatex Gasket remover, however the local parts store did not have any. Thanks for the suggestions.
