  2. Had one of these in a 57 Ranchero and made a duplicate of the aircleaner.

Saw just the aircleaner sell on eb##y for a little over $6,500:eek:

First of all, nice cars everyone! What a cool thread! I´m in the middle of building the AMT ´64 Mercury Marauder Hardtop -scale model kit. What would be the correct color for the engine, the intake manifold, the valve covers, as well as the aircleaner?
Looking through this thread, thus far I´ve seen gloss black, red, as well as blue engines, with chrome- or gold-colored valve covers.
So far I´ve got parts of the chassis painted, the body is in primer, soon to be sprayed in "Bittersweet" (what a beautiful color!) with either body-colored or gloss-black wide steelies+poverty caps.
    Thanks.

  4. I owned a Bittersweet 4 door Marauder it is a cool colour for sure.

Engine colours depend on the engine size and where the cars were built. Most cars would have had a 390 which would be semigloss black almost satin looking. The paint would probably be gloss but would be flattened down on cast iron. Air cleaner would be gold and also the valve covers.

a 427 would be black also with chrome valve covers and a cast "Cobra" style oval with a crossed flag T bird logo and an alloy intake.

    Here's some pics.

The bakelite box on the fender is an electronic ignition module for the 427.

The red washer bag is incorrect in the one pic. Mercury's had a medium blue one with square FoMoCo logo

Thank You, VirgilHilts, for Your prompt answer! So I take it the aluminum, oval aircleaner goes with the 2x4 bbl -option(?) The kit comes with the round, non-plated -style aircleaner that sounds like should be painted gold. The oval one looks like something I also might have as an option for this build, (the AMT ´63 Galaxie has one I´m not using in it, it´s for the 3x2 -option though, but looks close enough).
I´m more of a Chevy -guy myself, so I´m not quite as familiar w/FOMOCO -cars, something I´ve been noticing though, is that contrary to Chevies of this era, the cowls on all these cars appear to be painted satin black from the factory also. Strange in a way, since I´d think that would entail an additional paint process at the assembly line on a real car, however here it works in my favor, I only have 1oz of the PPG "bittersweet" lacquer to spray on this kit, but plenty of satin black hobby enamel.

One last question yet, I see there´s a body-color steel pan in between the fr bumper and the grille. What color/material is the recess between the tail panel and rear bumper, however? Looks like aluminum on some of the cars posted(?)
Also the kit appears to have something resembling a wood-grain panel molded on the door panels. Would this be something that would go with a parchment-colored upholstery in a Park Lane Marauder that my build is to depict?
    Thanks again:)

Captain, Sir. Could you please share some info of where the correct left rear view mirror would mount on a 63 1/2 convertibel? I've seen both door and fender mounted. I kinda want to put mine on the door but not sure if it's correct. It's the remote controlled.

  7. The cowl on Fords and Mercs are body colour down to the pinch weld line and then the firewall is painted black with a tarry like paint that looks somewhat flat. The inner fenderwells are satin/semigloss black.

The wood grain door panels are Park Lane ( Top of the Line) only and on all the interiors regardless of colour. The Park Lanes also use "dagger handle" door pulls same as the Ford XL that year.

    http://www.mercurystuff.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

This site has some good brochure shots that have interior shots too.

The anodized taillight panel dips down below the rear bumper to hide the body. Below that is a thin black rubber strip tacked but it would not be visible unless looked directly down upon. It's just to hide the gap. The panel itself is a grid that is painted black between the lines. The black also encircles the taillights. The Park Lane has thin metal "diamonds" between the vertical elements of the grid. The Montclair and Monterey do not have these originally.

    Hope this helps.

  8. When you say left I presume you mean driver side? If it is remote it is on the door. I can measure my original '64 but I cannot guarantee '63 is the same! Also some of these things could be different between cars built at different plants. There will be a perforated area on the back of the door panel where the remote cable and knob are to be located. It will need to be punched out and the vinyl cut if not already done.

Thanks again, Captain for the help! That´s a lot of information I wasn´t sure of just this morning, trying to decide what exactly to do next with my scale-model -project.
Let me know if I can perhaps ever be of any assistance elsewhere with things regarding x-frame Chevies:)

I saw this Marauder at a local car show today, looks sweet BUT the new owner wants to screw it up by fitting a custom Honda interior! I nearly puked when he told me that.

I got the "its my car & ill do what i want" speel from the yuppie owner, very sad to see a neat rare car getting goofed up.

  16. Hey, that's what it's all about exchange of info. I'm pretty much a Ford guy but I do have a soft spot for '59 Chevy wagons ( my dad had one!:D)

  17. Well, hopefully some enterprising soul will look this guy up, and make a good package deal on the 'obsolete' stuff he'll throw out to put in stuff that's going to be 'dated' in five years.

And sell it back to him when he comes to his senses.

    Ken,

pleasure meeting you the other day. Since you are into wagons here's a pic of my 62 Commuter wagon and Trailer I once had but have since sold both.

I just don't understand the mentality that thinks a Honda interior would be a good idea in this car. How can sombody think BOTH things are cool at the same time? I suppose the same guy will put some giant ugly-ass wheels on it as well.

This is the look I'm going for with my 64 P code Interceptor Marauder.

This is a 64 Galaxie P code, from the FE forum.

Ken, I can't wait to see that P code Mercury, put together. What a cool, cool car. You want to trade that old 70 Bronco of mine for it??
    Eric

PS, that P code Galaxie is perfect. If only my Z code, was a P code.....

Yes they are both 62's. I usually like the 63,64's but those 62 wagons are damn cool. Those tailights are what makes it. I'm not sure which one I like better the colony park or the commuter.
