Took the Mercury Valdeze to 5051's shop today to pull the motor and get it ready for the new(used)oilpan. Picked up the "field 400" from SlddnMatt" on wednesday. Toad56 came and helped me and my son get the engine out and remove the pan from the "field 400"so I could bring it home for some cleanin and paintin. Gonna put it on tomorrow and try to get the motor back in this week. Everything went okay, til we found out that there's 3 bolts on the motor-mounts! After that *****,it came right out. NO MORE OIL SPILLS!

NOTE: No animals were harmed in this procedure. PITA,EPA

No I can't go. It will be done, but I have a commitment I can't get out of. That's the way it goes. I'm out, unless something falls through.
It should go back together easy, but I have some adjusting to do. Re-route the ****** lines and the fuel line. If you look in the second pic,the ****** lines are between the exhaust and the ******. The fuel line goes between the steering box and the body. Need to move it closer to the firewall. Mount the new radiator. I'll be cruising again real soon!

Any of you guys want to help me drop the motor back in? PM me if you can help me. I get off work at 3:00,so it would be after that. 5051's shop is in Placentia. That's where the Merc is. Thanks.

Well, put the motor back in myself! **** THAT WAS A *****! Have to get some more parts to finish. Cleaned the engine compartment. Got rid of the rusty water stains, from when my waterpump blew last year. Looks pretty good now. New radiator, hoses, fuelline, power steering lines,****** cooler, shifter. The Camaro coils I got from SlddnMatt were too soft, and didn't work. I measured the height before,23" to the top of the fender well. Installed the new coils. Measured again,23"!!!****! Now I have to find some stiffer coils. The pan was all pushed in,by a floor jack,I guess. So now that the new pan is perfect, the drainplug is 1 1/2" closer to the ground. That puts it 3/4" from the ground! I'm gonna raise it about 3". Been a long day. I'll post some pic's tomorrow.

BADBOB Well that certainly is a 30 **** job by yourself !! My engine bay looks real similar in my Merc. I see You have a dual master cyl with a brake booster. We did the same in the same place. I used a 65 Caddy booster with 8" ford rear drums and stock Merc front. Im surprised how well the brakes work. I asume Youres work well too. Is that a 400 M Ford with a c6? Im running a 429 Caddy with a turbo 400. So good luck- You will be cruzin soon with that snyed grin ONLY a chopped Merc can give, Dig Your Merc Man. FEDER

If you look in the first pic,you can see in upper right hand corner, that I ran my fuel line accross the firewall,to get it up off the top of the motor.

The second pic shows how I mounted the new radiator with some angle iron. Had to slant it back to clear the lower cross member. Worked out pretty good.

The last pic shows where I mounted the ****** cooler. Fit perfect. About 2" away from the fan.

Still haven't solved the coil problem. There's a Ford salvage yard by my house, but he's closed for the Holiday weekend. Might put the other ones on for now. Still can't drive it yet. Too low!

Thanks Feder. Yes it's a 400M with a C6 and a 9" rear. Runs great, but the gears are too short. They're 373's. I want 301's. I can't put the mono-leafs on the back, til I get the front sorted out. It measured 23" to the top of the wheel opening. I want it at least 25". That will give me 3" clearance to my drainplug. Thats enough,I think. As far as the springs go,I might go try Pick-a-part. Might find some springs off an Expedition or newer F-150.

Drove out to "SlddnMatts" house for his wifes B-day party, with "******". The Merc drove great, but the alternator belt kept squeeling. Matts buddy Joe was there with his Canadian Mercury Monarch, convertable. It was cool seeing all three Mercurys parked together. The red 49 is the latest project Matt has going.
