well i keep it above 100 on the way in and to work its a 85 mile round trip every day. and at those speeds and my my foot to the flor at every stop light. i get around 36mpg!! it will get better if i stay at like 80 so its outa the "vtec" lobes on the cam

OK-I just got back.......looks like its gonna happen like this?.....Hack and Dirty on a road trip in the metrocar comin to my place to pick up the engine and trans.you dont need no stinkin truck!- Ill spring for the dinner here in Elmer- so thats a small help!
Hack -I know swaps and Im saying this trans and motor will fit in there with room to roll it over and back up again.
Then it will fall out thru the bottom hole left by the 216 unless its bolted in securely.!
it is a 2.8 s10 trans[3 gears] no overdrive.Ive put 400 turbos in these cars-
the engine mounts towards the front on each side.....the tail shaft mount will be about two inches behind the stock mount holes in 49 crossmember[4 bolt plate-two for trans and two for stock hole in xmember] .no need to change intake......if the thought of this motor in your car isnt weird enough then why in th hell would a long hose from the rear of intak to top outlet of radiator offend anybody! DONT FIX WHAT IS RUNNING!!!!!THANKS everybody for helping a friend and Hack -let me know when you guys are comin for sure.

 

this new engine in no way dediscofies it either Hack

they see the dingleballs and the crispness of the tunes blaring from the ole 8 track on them 4 watt radio shack speakers and the bright fuzzy fake fur fadeing in the sun on the dash and the contact cement lifting in the corners there is just no way it could be mistaken for anything but your Hackmobile aka the discomobile

What does dirtyt have for a "brand new welder"??? 110v?
that would more than likily work for a trans. cover (never used 110v, I'm sure if it is turned up anuff!

 

o dont insult my 110 welder. its the king shit snap on one! can weld god damn near any thing in a single pass! i was burning thru a old brake rotor with it the other day when i was messing around. and my boss just payed for 2 11 lbs spools of .030 wire non flux core of course. it can handle any thing the chevy will spit at us! o yea and it is "brand new" just bought it like 2 months ago

 

do you got a dryer or stove plug in? you can make up a 220 extension cord out of some #8 wire if it comes to that and someone has the wire and ends?

my little shack is a 100' or so from the house so thats what I do and it seems to work pretty good

remember guys -this motors so little you can use a heater core for a radiator!

 

so now you need a shroud(SP?) TOO!!

 

not any of my bussiness Hack-but I recommend installin this thing close to the radiator/that helps with the aforementioned FREAKtop hose deal and also will make the space for the trans tailshaft work out better.
Maybe even allow for the stock trans tunnel cover to still work./not to mention the MORE weight appied to the front suspension would be a welcome addition.OOHHHHH

hack dude, its SOP to cut out the center of the trans crossmember when putting slushboxes in them chebbys. you just gotta drop the mount about two inches or so. if you want, i can get in on this charity a little...i got the mount i cut out of mine, going to a custom made crossmember, it ain't much of a mount, but it's what you get with the store bought motor mount kits, still got bits of my old crossmember attached, no extra "cost"! if you want it, i'll throw it in the mail tomorrow for ya! save you a bit of hacksawing. iffin you want it hit up my pm with your addy.

 

No Hack- those are my "neighbors" on either side of my shop downtown.....OH-I checked the 2.8 has a conventional REAR SUMP PAN........

FH- FWIW, I have a T350 in my 52...no cutting of the crossmember or "massaging" the trans tunnel. (I did have to remove some undercoating for clearance, tho!) Thing is, the trans is hard-mounted sans OEM trans mount. (Engine has the rubber mounts.) There is just a flat 4-hole plate like someone else described. 2 holes for where the mount would normally go into the T350. Other 2 holes are threaded for some 7/16 bolts. This is where you bolt the plate itself to the 49's original trans mount holes in the crossmember. The fit is tight...about 0.001" clearance between top of tranny and bottom of tunnel, but it fits!

 

2.8's don't use the same tranny as a small block Chevy.

The bellhousing is smaller and uses a smaller torque converter.
Vega converters WILL fit a common T350...so the Vega automatic is bigger in the bellhousing and possibly bigger in the main body as well.
The S10 must use one of those T200 trannys mentioned earlier!

Yeah Hack I think you can make this swap happen.
I believe it will also pull the 49 fair too as it was in a 1981 CITATION originally.
Cant be much difference in weight there.Ill look up any "peripherals"[thats parts in english] that goes with this engine..........I am glad to see it put to a semi sane use now.
