Messed up my Knee BIG time-- O/T

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 2tall2beahotrodder, Apr 4, 2004.

1. One of the worst weekends ever!! I just gota job at the drag strip, making decent 10bucks an hour..
yesterday had a 13 hour shift, and today a 15 hour shift.

It was around 6, when i punched out, just as it started to drizzle, my older friend picked me up um in his 80's sportster..
We were driving out of the main parking lot, as it start to pour like crazy.. We were going 30, maybe 35 when we hit a mud slick and a M***IVE pothole..
The bike started wobbling like crazy, and since im not a Expert balancing this thing, he tried his best, and so did I, but the bike layed out under neith us, any my leg got shoved under the bike...
So im sitting in the mud like a *** hole, my friend is laying on the gound with his face in the water, I took my right leg, and pushed the bike off of us...
You shoudda saw my left leg.. I herd and felt more than 8 snaps, and by the time i looked at my leg, and felt the pain, it was snapped in this crazy position...
Im not a flexible type, and when i saw this, i went crazy, and snaped it back strait as possible...

Damn man, i never felt this kind of pain before, when i cut my paints with my knife, my knee tendent, or something like that was BULGED to a point, where if i didnt snap it back in, it would snap my skin ...

**** man, the next 2 months are ****ed!
Gotta go get xrays and such tomarrow..
Wish me luck, hopefully its just a sprain, and not a torn ligimet, dislocated , or if im really ****ed to need knee surgery..

Ohhhhh...MAN! Expect the worst by the sound of that!
I love bikes but thats why I'll never have one. I've had "meniscus cartilage" damage to both knees over the years but you sound far worse off than I was! I feel for ya man! Hang in there.

Come on dude,if it were as bad as you say you'd have been to the ER in an ambulance & in a cast now. So what happened after the crash? you just picked the bike up & continued home?

Whats with this mud ****? Both of us busted our legs in mud related accidents within days of each other.

I just have to figure how to keep busy for the next 8 weeks. Hope you got people to help get you acclimated to life on crutches, keeping **** off the floors, etc. Even carrying a coffee cup is a major chore.

Im in a splint and tomorrow the cast goes on, doctors need a few days for the swelling to go down first.

Life ****s and then you die!

C'mon...I challenge ya to a kickboxing compe***ion, fool!!! [IMG] [IMG]

(We can sit at opposite ends of the rings on BOXES and KICK insults and jabs back and forth!!)

Ha Ha...just tryin' to make you feel better...I was there when I was about your age. Riding with a buddy of mine and we layed it down hard goofing off...he got away clean while I smashed me knee into the gravel-ridden concrete.

Pain? Oh yeah...on the spot and all the way home...then I had to pick out all the gravel with tweezers...but by then I was pretty much in shock and the pain was hardly registering.

Two days later, with my leg in a home-made splint, I hobbled down the driveway and climbed onto my buddy's Kawasaki KZ900 as my Dad shook his head. "Didn't you just damn near bust a leg in two on a damn bike?!?" he yelled...

"Yeah, Dad...but the other leg is okay so it's cool!" I replied!

Lucky thing I had two cars at the time...had to drive the one with the automatic for two months!

That knee is still ****ed up to this day...hope yours heals up better for ya!!

Good luck on the knee, doesn't sound good. Hope you have healthcare insurance. If you don't check see if buddys bike does. If he had med pay or even liability should cover you. My right knee gives me trouble still, went down about 35 yrs ago. I will take anything that runs, & I can control it, and do about anything but under no cir***stances will I get on the back of a bike with anyone!! [IMG]

I left some freinds' house sat evening to head home, on my bike, got on the freeway. Started to rain. (yes, it does rain in so cal) motorcycle and wet raingrooved freeway is a bad thing. Got off freeway! went back to house. Ate fried chicken and drank beer and watched Texas Chainsaw. All much better than busting leg.

12. I should of went to the ER yesterday.. My leg never felt and looked this bad.. I had ice on it all last night, and took some Telinol(sp) PM ... I woke up screeming in pain...

Should of took other peoples advice and went. [IMG] I talked to the doctor on the phone, he said hopefully itta be sprained or inturnly bruised . Which means only about a week on the crutches, if i ice and keep off of it. If its broken or dislocated itta be over 2 months...

I have a doctors appontment at in about 2 hours, heres a picture of what it looks like... Looks more ****ed in real life-

If this is going to turn into a show us your scars post, I'm not gonna play till somebody gets me good and drunk.
When I went off my bike the bone in my arm was exposed from the elbow to the wrist and I lost about a pint of blood thru the s****es in my knees, my *** and my chest & arms. Funny thing is, my helmet never got a scratch. Like the man said, picking the gravel out of your body ain't much fun. It may hurt, but I think you'll live.

16. Yea im not trying to brag or anything.. Got nothing else better to do, its spring vacation and I'll be laying on the couch for the next 2 weeks...
Heading to the doctors soon, ill let you guys know the results..

17. Knees are a *****. Between baseball, skiing and being a drunk idiot I've done my left one 3 times and my right one twice (not to mention sprained ankles, thumbs and fingers, 2 popped ribs, dislocated shoulder 4 times... never broken a bone though [IMG] ). I walk up stairs and it sounds like popcorn popping.

AVOID surgery if you possibly can. I've seen more guys get more screwed up by going under the knife or scope. Rest it, alternate heat and cold, immobilize it, and slowly start exercising it. Good as new... until you do something dumb again (I speak from experience).

Have fun brutha. I know what you're going through. [IMG]

Listen up bro!! Again, if your buddy has insurance on the bike you need to file a claim. Not dissin him or nothing but your knee is screwed up and if he has liability insurance it should pay your med bills & lost wages & pain & suffering etc. Unless you live in a state that has no fault insurance. You are gonna be without income for 2 months and you don't have to if he has insurance. Dont let yourself come out on the short end of this. Good luck!

Man, be careful with that thing. If you need surgery, go to at least two doctors for different opinions.
Knee surgery is delicate and not that perfected yet.
I was trained as a prosthetic tech and man, you would be surprised at the number of people walkin around on artificial legs from surgical errors.
Not tryin to bum ya out, just saying that you have to educate yourself, become an informed consumer, before you go in for any surgery.
