Pfft! Spoken like a true yokel. Who ever heard of Oklahoma style anything? All you guys are famous for is the dustbowl. If you ever had tomato based, you would have to take that back. I declare that I make one of the finest barbeque sauces ever. That ain't talk either, I'll stack mine up against anyone's. I'd have a HAMBBQ, but I sincerely doubt anyone would come all the way up here for it.
This'll get those HamBBQ's started on the right foot Tofu Chili This recipe is for my vegetarian chili. It's a great 5 minute meal that is very healthy and versatile. If you don't have one ingrediant, throw another in! You can make a batch, freeze or just refridgerate it and not have to cook for days. 1 can kidney beans 1 can black beans 1 can soybeans 1 can corn (or about 3 cups frozen) 1 box Fantastic Foods Vegetarian chili 1 package extra firm tofu, crumbled 2 cans of chopped tomatoes 2Tbs olive oil 1Tb. Goya Adobo seasoning pepper to taste salt to taste Add water to chili according to package directions, then toss everything else in. Bring it all to a boil, then simmer for about 30 minutes for best results. Enjoy!
I would, but I heard that place was weird.... I'm afraid you will have to wait for the next Roundup, but you are on!
Yeah well, New Jersey Pizza could kick the *** of any pizza anywhere! But the BBQ leaves something to be desired.
As soon as I saw this post, I knew this was trouble. And then I saw that Ryan weighed in on the post. I lived in Austin, TX for two years. I've had CA and KS BBQ. TX wins hands down. As far as chili goes, my wife makes the best chili. I'm no fool. I still want to eat. I'm still experimenting on my BBQ sauce to get it where I want it. Good AZ BBQ places? Nobody can stay in business long enough to establish a reputation. That should tell you about the quality of the BBQ.
Ryan, you have been wanting to do a HAMB cruise? Well, here is your chance. Lockhart TX (HW 71) has at least 3 different top notch BBQ joints. Lets pick one cruise out, eat, cruise back! Simple and it makes for a get together.
I gotta say, CP is on to something. I can't cook worth a squat (I swear I'd burn Jello!), but somebody around here oughtta be able to pull this off. When Limelight had their open house, they had some Q... and it was quite good, but we can easily out-do that! Since I was transplanted to Texas from NC, I have to comment on the Carolina style. If you're thinking of the Piedmont style (red version), it only counts if it is prepared AND consumed within the borders of Davidson County. Cross county lines with it and it loses something. And it ain't COLE SLAW. It's Barbecue Slaw. Totally different. I think they use cole slaw on the yellow eastern Carolina stuff... served with Brunswick stew for some reason. But I'll take Texan brisket over that any day! If I ever get to KC, I won't leave till I try their stuff. I hear it's halfway edible...
Damn, Chili, you act as though this was the first ever HAMB bbq! I can recall a time, oh about 4 or 5 years ago that a bunch of us from So Cal drove up to Livermore for a HAMB bbq. Not bustin yer balls, just stating fact. Oh yeah as far as BBQ goes, it's either Stubbs, or The Salt Lick. That's my $.02
We may not have a HAMB BBQ but about to have the day at the drags HAMB style and there will be BBQ there and a lot of other stuff !!!
Luke you are talking Jive again. If I don't believe you, then show some pictures. We have ours all on film. Admissable in a court of law. In controvertable evidence. Even got NUNS to back it up. Your "get together" season is a little shorter than mine. So, organize a BBQ and see if we Southern Californios won't show for it. You got NO good chili up there and you'll need me. If Redbeard can travel down here in that A bone, we can return the favor. It's them lyin' Tejanos what can't get it together in their little state. I see them trying to distract us with a bunch of hooey about recipes and restuarants. After reading all that blueskyin' from them you'd think they'd show up at the next "Luau for the Lowdown" and teach us a good ol' Lone Star lesson. Besides now I want some real Texas brisket. Mesquite smoked, please. When they get fed up with all this ribbing, they might have their own HAMB BBQ. Until they do, it's their turn in the barrell. TOFU CHILI!!! Googaz, you're flat out ruining my credibility with the Texans, Carolinians, Missorians and even the Okies. You might be able to BBQ tofu, but chili is serious bidness!! BTW, it ain't a true HAMBBQ is you do it at the Round up. Gotta be a stand alone deal. Dante is a RULER for pulling this deal off. All American HAMBers must bow down toward the setting sun in his honor. Next years Luau for the Lowdown will be even better. The Vipers AA/FC should be there next time (Alochol-Alcohol/Food Coupe) See pix.
I think what Phil was getting at was an attempt to rile up the board to go out and organize an event where everyone has a blast. It doesn't matter where it's at, just as long as you have some good friends, good food and good times. As y'all can see from the pictures, nothing better than seeing a grip of rods next to the beach(well the nuns added a different angle to the equasion). It's great to be able to put faces to names as well as spend the day with some like minded folk. And I gotta agree with Axle, NOLA has some of the best food around. I could list all the places, but that'd take too much room. RRR
The Kontinetals in Austin throw the biggest HAMB BBQ twice a year. After the Roundup or the Day of the Drags there is a big *** BBQ pit right in front of the Continental Club. Hang out and eat BBQ till you puke. You smell like a BBQ sandwich when you go to sleep at night. Life does'nt get much better.
That sounds like a good time, a lot of my favorite pickers play at the Continental. When I get out there, I'll teach you Texans about chili.
Every time we get together in texas theres BBQ. Its just common courtesey. I cant help if you Cali pepole are just catching on. I'll admit I grew up In SO Cal, but Im totaly converted to Teaxan. BBQ and Mexican food is all I need, and luckily there is no shortage of either.
Ya know, the more I think about it, LSO is right, and you can ignore my earlier post. Eatin' BBQ in Texas is kinda like breathing. We just do it all the time, and we don't need a special EVENT to eat it. (I had brisket for BREAKFAST last Sunday.) Yall outside of Texas don't hear aout our BBQ's cause we just kinda take it for granted. It'd be kinda like having a hot rod get together just so everybody can show off their new Levi's. CP-- bring your chili-making paraphernalia to the 06 HAMB Drags so we can verify your claims. We'll have Denise's cookies for dessert!
ryan, you should know better than to talk trash about texas when you have just moved HERE. in case you havn't herd it lately, welcome to texas. -danny
God Save Us!...... meat and ****es are chili.....you made friggin bean soup..... Reminds me of a chili cook-off I was in. The damn yankees down from us put white rasins and kidney beans in their "chili"..... for the love of pete.... stop! stop!
Beans in chili? Oh my sides hurt from laughing. Tofu? WTF? Where does that grow? Is that a new ****e or something? Square food? I am with Slide here on the breakfast thing. Just finished a sausage & brisket omlette Smothered in sauce with homemade tater salad for breakfast. All left overs from the Rita hurricane shelter and animal boarding facility party at the ranch here over the weekend. "The First and Last Hurricane Rita MargaRita Party and Emergency Shelter Grand Opening and Closing Extravaganza". Hope that is the last one for the year had two in three weeks now. "Bring your fat pants and a thong so you don't have any *****lines showing on the way home." Beans in chili...............Oh stop it.........
kansas city is king. world renowned. great lenexa barbeque cookoff, american royal, i went to one this summer, tasted 200 different local sauces, vinegar based, tomato based, y'all cant hang with the champions! baseball, football, we ****. BBQ we know.
There are three places to eat BBQ in Lockhart that Id recommend 1st choice: Kruez- no forks, toothpicks and a knife. J - On 183 South, on the right as you come in to Lockhart before RR tracks 2nd choice: Chisholm Trail BBQ (aka: Floyds)- On 183 South, through Lockhart, past Whataburger on the right. (has more side dishes) 3rd choice: Smittys BBQ (in old Kreuz building), on 183 South, on the right at the intersection of 183 and Prarie Lea Street.
Okay, even though I LOVED Chili's chili, I have to agree...........chili is NOT supposed to have beans in it. But most Californians like it because it kills some of the heat. As for the tofu..........Googaz! You posted a TOFU reciepe under a thread about Texas BBQ! WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN? Just proved everything they ever thought about us! No matter, I can make a MEAN Southern OR Western meal so at least Bakersfield's still in the running. **x
Tofu chili? Sorry there Phil, you had me goin' there for a minute with your "little state" talk, but Googaz just put a bullet in the head of your team. I think your chili GTG was mentioned on an episode of Will and Grace...
damn straight skip. I still have the trophy for the longest distance driven. The roach rod was still under construction in those days and sam got pushed around the parking lot in it making engine noises. haha chili phil this is the only picture I have from it right now Muds car is in the background and I think dustin has the rest of the pictures somewhere. I will post a picture of the trophy made outta a hubcap and pushrods if you still don't believe
HEY! I saw that car in Redondo Beach! In fact, I had just bought my camera and was driving down to take some pictures on the beach, had to do a U-turn to capture that thing. Your car is the first thing I ever photographed with my camera. And learn how to park you jerk! Sorry for the ****py shot...
