Any good shops or stand alone painters in Omaha that shoot the flake? I don't even know if what I want to make happen is possible.....a subtle flake in a cream colored base. Any and all chime in! Thanks guys
send a pm to Jeff "hiboy32" on here. He is in Omaha and I think he shot the flake on Nick "Malcolm"s car.
Finkd on here shot the flake on the roof of Gary's AKA Hot-Rod Roadster's wagon. He's in KS though but it's not that far from Omaha.
Yep!.. Jeff may be able to help you out. He did an awesome job of shooting the flake and candy on the roof of my Galaxie. Actually, another shop here in Omaha shot the flake on the roof of Gary's wagon. Later on, he took it down to Jeff Meyers to have him paint the rest of the car and he added the lace to the roof.
Thanks Nick, have you heard anything about Midwest Customs in Omaha? About 60th and Sorenson Expressway...
Don't really know much about them, but I think they do mostly 20+" wheel SUV stuff and stereos... from what I remember seeing at the Omaha World of Wheels a couple years ago.
I've seen some of that crap parked there too, but also some AD pickups and one fleetline and a blue 46 to 48 chevy sedan. Guess I should just stroll on in and have a chat. Anybody on subtle flake with a cream base, it's not set in concrete, just curious. Thanks.
Chris Hunke at Cars R Us shot the flake on the roof of my 64 wagon (Jeff Meyers Premier Paint Arkansas City Ks. did all the rest) Chris also shot the flake on the roof of my 55 Gasser and redid the flake roof on my 60 Chevy. He's done alot of customs at his shop. Gary
I am in the middle of a custom inspired build on a '60 Belvedere....we have gone for a cream basecoat with gold holographic 8mm flake and it is KILLER ! You can still see the basecoat thru the flake so it's not laid on super thick.
I am such a stinkin noob to metal flake, gold was suggested by the gent from New Zealand...I wouldn't know color from shinola flake. Skool me please
What sort of car are you painting? Are you just flaking the roof or all of it? If it's two tone what colours will it be? I'm no expert but I did research it a bit because I wanted a flaked roof. They seem to say that silver flake is best on a dark base, but coloured flake should use a base close to the flake colour. Then there's holographic flake which comes in different colours and sizes and pops in it's original colour as well as the colours of the rainbow depending on how the light catches it. There are different sizes of flake from tiny to chunky, the bigger it gets the more clear (and rubbin) goes into it. You can lay it on thick or sparingly depending on the look you are going for. Test panels are always a good idea. One things for sure, there's a lot more work in it than in a solid colour paintjob. The gold holographic 8mm flake on the Belvedere was laid on not too heavily and you can tell that the basecoat is cream but look at it one way it pops gold, another way and it pops red, blue, or green, and another way and its cream........it's awesome, I'll have pix next week but pix never do flake or pearls justice. I hope that was of some help. Jerry.
Thanks Jerry, very helpful. Thats just it, the whole car in cream some medium to small flake through the entire paint job, my car doesn't have the lines for a roof only spray.Car is a 1947 Dodge club coupe.
