OK, been doing some searching and found the discussions about the dry flake gun, using a "cheap harbor freight" gun, and swapping tips on a regular gun. I'm thinking about doing a flake job on a race go-kart that I'm going to pick up for the kids - they want Green and Pink or Purple and Pink or Green (don't worry they're girls ) Anyhow I've done plenty of painting and have a nice older DeVillbliss siphon feed gun as well as a really dirt cheap harbor freight gun (that I can never really get a fine finish out of compared to the good gun - this one here: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=45001 ) Anyhow what's my best option for getting a decent job? Buy a tip for the DeVlillbliss gun, use the HF gun I've got or is there a better cheap HF gravity feed HVLP gun to use for this? Also any helpful hints or does it just go on like spraying clear really heavily? Thinking about using the Roth metalflake and some PPG DCU2002 clear that I've got laying around. Guess I'm not super worried about slight imperfections as I'll hazzard to guess they'll be rubbing or bumping other karts on the track and it'll last a season at best...
Do a search on here, I know I've replied a couple times on this topic as well as others. H F gun is fine , just use 2 mm or bigger
it all depends on the size of flake you plan to use, you can get by spraying smaller flake with a 1.5 tip but if you want to spray a bigger flake you'll need at least a 2 mm tip. i would recomend getting a bigger tip for your devilbiss gun, it's probably cheaper and the harbor freight guns are nothing to brag about
