There is an event that takes place every year in Robinson, Illinois called Metalmeet. It is a hands-on workshop for people who work with metal. Everything from tubing to sheetmetal with tutorials on everything from rollers to english wheels. This event is supposed to be KILLER (no, not you Jason). Anyway, I got invited and because of the SEMA show I can't go (I'm bummed!). Just because I can't go doesn't mean that you can't register and attend! Here is the scoop: When: October 29th 2003 Where: Robinson, Illinois What: Metalworking workshop Web: www.metalmeet.com They're planning on working some panels for a scratch-built roadster body, major body modifications on a 1937 Olds coupe (including turning it into a hardtop) and a comparison study between traditional methods of hot rodding and old-school coach building. They're also going to build custom fenders and a tank for a chopper project, patch panels for a Chrysler Imperial quarter panel and they will have fully operational forges setup for tool-making. They'll also have some tool vendors on hand giving deals on everything from shot bags and mallets to planishing hammers. If you want to take a shot at sharpening your skills, this might be something to help you out. You can contact Randy Ferguson from Metalmeet at rodbuilderandco@frsb.net
