Thanks everyone. Doesn't matter to me how rare it is cause this will be a keeper. Will for sure be doing research if possible on making this van a hauler.

Danish engineer Jörgen Skafte Rasmussen was the originator of the
DKW, derived from Dampf - Kraft - Wagen (Steam powered
vehicle), since Rasmussen's first design was a light steam car,
produced in 1916. DKW was by the 30's a worlds leader in Motorcycle production. They actually bought the Audi brand in the late 30's during Germany's Depression. they later combined with Horch and Wanderer to form Auto Union, then reintroduced Audi in the late 50's early 60's. The whole shebang was then purchased by VW a few years ago.

The 3=6 badge is for their feeling that a 3 cylinder 900 cc 2 stroke was the equal of a 1800cc 6 cylinder 4 stroke motor. Vans about that shape and size are still popular in Europe. We just came back from Ireland where they are all over the place in light commercial duty. Represented just about all European companies. Opel , Renault, Citreon, Pugoet, Ford and VW still make modern versions. Still with small engines. Lots of 1200 cc turbo diesels making the rounds over there.

So you going steam turbine route for power???? the three banger is very similar to the SAAB 2 stroke motor from the old 93/96 series.

The Vauxhall thing looks only a couple rungs up the evolutionary ladder from the old DKW

  6. Looks like the aluminum belt line molding is friom a VW Deluxe Microbus, the speedo and ashtray from a pre-5'53 VW Bug, and the steering wheel is from a Standard Bug (never officially sold in the US)
It kinda figures that with DKW and VW both being German, there would be some crossover on parts. There's probably a lot more that would interchange, but that's what I saw from a quick, cursory, look.

  7. That thing is hideous, but I love it!!! Is that a '39 ford 4 door deluxe next to it? as for them don't touch it types, F 'em and do what ya want with it.

Nice ride, Meth. Do a google on Fridolin, it's a VW version of this same van. They too are quite rare, built as a mailtruck. Some of the parts look very VWish. Whats' the wheel bolt pattern?? The mirrors can be bought on The Samba. It would make a nice yardshed to keep your Hotwheels in.

I think I'm in love. That would make the sweetest parts chaser ever. I'm thinking a T-bird turbo coupe drivetrain just to be different, or maybe a Iron Duke w/tubo.
I'll need an address to drop off the $$$'s. I'll bring the trailer and money, how about tomorrow morning, soon enough? :D
