Where's a good source for metric size tires. I have an old pair of Michlen 165R15 on the front of the Deuce. I need another pair but don't think Michlen makes them anymore. Mine were made in the late 60s. They are 25" dia. and mount on my old 4.5 by 15 American Torque Thrusts.

  2. We get ours from a tire shop in Denver that sells from the back of the VW magazines. Performance Tire? I am not sure?

The tire stores here carry them. I'd have to outside to my car or truck to see the brand. Tell'em Volkswagon

165R-15 are standard VW tires. I get mine at Discount Tire, about 40-some-odd bucks mounted and balanced.

135-, 145-, and 155- sized tires are available, but quite a bit less common. Check the advertisers in one of the VW mags; most will mail order them.

If you need even smaller tires (can't imagine why, really), I have seen 125R-15 tires on a Renault 2CV. I was overseas at the time (about 10 or so years ago), but I think Coker lists them in the catalog.

For what it's worth, the 165s work well on all three of my hot rods (29 highboy, 40 coupe, and 41 pickup).

i dont think those are actually considered metric tires...just radials...

true metrics are the tires that dont go by rim sizes such as 13",14",15" etc.. the use a weird rim sizing and are very expensive,.,,some of the old bmw's used these ..

Since the 165 is the width (tread width I think) in millimeters, they are "metric",
but yes, there are also other "metric" tires that don't measure to 13" 14" 15" 16" inch denomination rims.

I saw some 135R-15s Michilin ZXs on a twin supercharged 383"SBC engined (yes, two engines in a row) Model T closed cab pick up at Frisco's diner Saturday night, and yes he drove it there and away.

Coker sells a******in' tire by firestone 135sr15 . I've got a set on the front of my roadster with the same wheels (15x4.5) Americans. What is wheel size and tire that you are running in the rear ? ...L B

  11. the 165 measurment is the section width not the tread width. the section width is the widest measurement as viewed from the top of the tire looking down on the tread.

The F-stones kinda match my rear tire tread pattern and was also just wondering who else was from the Hot Wheels generation ( americans) Here's a pic of the firestone's tread and side on my roadster....good luck ! don't settle for any tire..... Tire and wheel combo "make" the car..Cool......L B

LB your car is scary close to mine including the Coker/Firestone front tires. Two exceptions are no holes in my chrome front axel and I've got American Salt Flats on `er, 15x4 front & 16x8 rears.
