I grew up in SoCal and both Mexican and Navajo blankets figured in my misspent youth.

 

Probably not Mexican but blanket just the same. "TexMex"

Well, good then!! Its about damn time that the Mexicans start out sourcing their labor costs too. That means that they are working towards a higher wage and subsequently a higher standard of living.

 

My dad bought this blanket in Tijuana on a family vacation when I was a kid. I'm 37 now and it's seen duty in family cars, my cars, camping etc. I inherited this old couch when I moved out and after the vinyl cushions were done (damn cat) I wrapped the foam in the blanket. The couch didn't last too much longer after this picture was taken a few years ago but the blanket is now draped over the new couch. It's starting to show a little wear...

 

So! Why are American Indian Blankets not used ? Made here in the USA !

I think what scareynickname is saying is along the lines of...

most people see Mexican blankets as a cheap way to cover their tatty seats and brighten a dull interior... something just to throw over

Native American blankets are hand made on a loom on a dirt floor in a kiva and take months to finish. Modern "Mexican" blankets are mass produced in a factory. The Navajos are paid pennies per hour to make these by the american owned trading posts. Kinda like the chinese system....

Native American blankets deserve to be hung on a wall. Although I have seen some of your hot rods that I would love to hang on my wall! Art.
