Yea, that sounds like a plan. It's simple to cross for the US side doing a real importation. I just was wondering what the Mex customs will say. One thing I learned is that US made cars are really easy to get by US customs, it's the foreign ones that get hung up (hope I never find a Fiat 8V in Mexico). I am picking all the good stuff off the car. When it's just a hulk, I'm gonna take my reciept and try to pass it this way to see what happens. Unfortunately for me on a 57 Olds wagon the most desirable part is the body so if they take it it's lost. If everything goes OK with the Olds, I'll see if I can find something more exotic (like that hearse).
Fiat128,good luck....from the mexican side is easy to go thru, and long you made a " responsiva " / bill of sale AT LIST you ahve sort of papers to cruze... better if you have more papers, like : factura : original title tarjeton : like registration tarjeta de circulacion : also another plastified paper where all DMV dates are on at list with 1 of those nobody acn say anything and you 're the legal owner, also to avoid any possibility of stolen vehicles... that's why you need to be protected by papers.... this is how is workin in mexico city area, can be aprox the same there almost sure you'll pay NO import duties too, takin back an US car well, let us know how it goes... try first with an inexpensive car,but should be really fine... again, good luck

Folks, here is sleds latest discovery. "after lots of calls i could met the owner of this rare Caddy 58 Eldorado Brougham.he came from another city to show me the car and appeared to be in great general conds... this was the most luxury production car in 58,costing to the factory 23.000 USd each...selling price was 13.000 Usd ,lots of cash for that time... pure class on the road,it can be considered a factory custom with all stainless steel roof and pillarless design....suicide rear doors. they came with air-ride too,but was prone to leakin and usually replaced with normal shocks,as this one. these ones are sleepers now but destinated to be really expensive in the future, according to collectors infos..."
The Eldo Brougham is nice in so many ways but the seats are the greatest. I'd like to know the story of how this car found it's way to Mexico and who owned it along the way.
dude just watch any old films from the 1930-60 70's and you see the cars they drive .it almost looks like downton la or nyc same cars th ey didnt just drive around on donkeys and stage couch.mexico has its own love of cars. their cars ended up in a a scrap yard s when the vw came into play in the 70's cause of gas prices!but the old cars that survived are coverd up in old ladies car ports and their the origainal owners. i want to go down their just to see what i come across.
Yeah, I got it, thank you. It had been originally written as one word "perlomenos". I've spent some time in Mexico and a lot of it looking at old cars. That Brougham was uncommon and expensive when new. I'm sure it has interesting history and I'm curious about who might have once owned it. I think Frank Sinatra had one.
I think the thing to keep in mind is that there are many ways that cars end up down there. Not everyone that comes North is here to pick veggies for very little money. One of my fiancees relatives just retired down there where he was from. He worked a blue collar job in SF for 25 years. Now he is living very comfortably off his retirement and he bought his cars in the US and took them with him. I still love this thread
turbo442....YEP,plenty of different ways to get those expensive cars down here...always hear lots of cool stories... previous presidents, for example, in times of import recession they don't give a shit and just bought the best alvailable in the US market..from hemi 68/70 chargers to Caddys Eldos and so on... also lots of normal guys are going to work in US and comin back witha cool car, then going back again and leave the cars here sittin forever...very common especially in the west area (guadalajara and all jalisco province) some others they just bought cars brand new in US,and imported here...i know a 53 Caddy Eldo bought NEW from a wealthy local guy and car is hidden here in town,1 owner and NOT for sale at any price...car is in top conds, black with red interior...
Benzine440,i don't have much history right now on the 58 Brougham...but the current owner has it since 35 years... and very little driven...actually you cannot drive those kinda cars here anymore, too dangerous ...at list needs to be fully insured! but there is so much traffic that will be too stressful will ask more infos as soon i got the chance in any case....
