Magnus B,thanks as usual buddy...been around today and found more shit!! Pix will be added soon.feel very lucky recently, alls tuff is comin to meee,yeah...
Can't be too many of these left. It would make for a terrific custom. I wouldn't have much conflict modifying a 110. I could build my own Darrin roadster. Ay Chihuahua Sled, this is endlessly fascinating!
Sled when you make your millions in mexico think of the small guy in Sheboygan Wisconsin that has follow your threads since day one You find all the cool shit!
Benzine440,probably you're right about the Packard 40...with some cool drawings from Janne it sure will turn out a cool kustom... But from my side i'm overfilled with cars and stuff that turns out almost daily and is simply too much too follow all ideas and projects.. so,i stick with the Mercs for the moment.Already moved some others Mercs 49/50 to my garage waitin theier turn to be built... luckily they are in much better conds and i really wanna start my 40 Merc soon also...to much to do,i know!!is the same for all of us... anyway i will keep posting some junk from tequilaland,no worries there is plenty more to come....
Benzine,i forgot..a friend o mine had an original Packard 41 Darrin, restored to perfection...1 of these days i put some history here for all to know... car was known since imported ,belonged to a previous pesident family and lost it to almost rotten conds...saved and restored and now sold back to USA... 35 made and only 10 still existing...the mexican one was called the missing link, now back in Usa...a piece of Us history is back to its former glory!
Fellas,as soon i have some spare time i have some more junk for ya...stay tuned!IT's rainy season in Mexico now,a bit messy to be around and scarf..but i'll keep going...
Message from Sled: Finally i had the chance to move some of my junk...here my 49 Merc project, sittin since some years outdoors. But time has come and since i took these pics days ago the car has a new home ,and is waiting his turn to be started,soon... Well,i love this thing..looks almost new compared to the 50 merc i'm workin on..ok,floors,A pillars is normal stuff for me...but the overall body is not bad at all..so,will be fun to start on this one soon....traditional style,of course.
WW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just spent like 30 mins looking at this thread at work and i dont care that my boss was yelling at me to get of the internet. FUCKIN sick man FUCKIN sick
Message from Sled: Been to another town and askin around i came up with a local car freak with some junk...here a small selection, nothin special but cool to see..the 60 Camino was really solid indeed, but not for sale...Yep,we have Rat Fink fans over here too.looks like he's kinda loved in Mexico, and seen RF logos in many places...
Sled: Asking a friend from another town to find some old stuff ,and he came up with this Caddy 47,series 62 sittin in a garage, waitin an uncertain future..the good thing the Caddy is 1 owner, all original inside still...rust free too!!easy fixin thing, and running too. I know the owner will never restore it,probably i will jump on this one...love this longer whales sitting low cruisin...
Sled: also following more leads i neded up with up with this bike mechanic,a funny guy which showed me inside his garage...and with my surprise a solid 39 Chevy coupe was sittin resting over there...there was a strange light and very diffucult to take decent pics,i realized later..but at list you get an idea of the place, was surrealistic somehow....and a cool Bonnie 67 just besides,in nice running shape. The guy he will restore the Chevy,yeah...i'm sure he will!!!In the afterlife....
Sled: More finds the same day,was a good lead...an unusual solid 36 Olds coupe in running conds,a 57 Dodge Kingsway and a rare 47 Caddy series 75 Fleetwood, also in very nice original conds..you never know where the stuff is around here...is kinda pleasing to discover such stuff, still not my style on this specific one but hey...better than nothing! Guess on the Dodge 57 rear bumber the accesory side bumperettes (don't know the correct name) which the Mopar fans will die for, right???
Sled: The good karma attracts cars to me...was loading a tow truck while moving some other cars of mine and a young kid showed up and asked me if somethin was for sale..said nope!!And then he told me he had close by an old Mercury, which is the 47 coupe you see here...not so bad, with original flattie on but original paperwork have been lost,so i declined the deal....wished him good luck and left.Too bad was'nt a 49 to 51....some daily stories,ya know...
Yep,that's why i 'm hangin around here...so much fun findin all these stuff...anyway,i do have already more pics to add..had good leads recently and as usual, stay tuned folks...
Benzine440,is not really a problem anyway..in Mexico everything is possible and is fun too, cause all can be fixed,so the papers... I know it looks for the first world sounds a bit crazy, but here even the papers can be fixed in many ways..if no papers or at lost you can declate by a authorized public notary the loss of papers and a file will be opened..in 2/3 weeks time if nobdy claims the car you can be the legal owner having the notary legally testify the car is not stolen and a new paperwork will be released to proceed at the local DMV application for the plates and sticker, simple as that....if is a car with 30 years and more and classic style you can obtainm the historical plates ,and you are free of the 6 months pollution registration...and you can drive daily too.
Benzine440,actually i can buy that Merc 47 coupe anytime, but i have many other choices...paperwork is not an issue anyway,as explained above..even for export is no problem at all.
Sled: Been around a bit, getting lost randomly in the old barrios, not so safe places to go but i'm used to it ...actually with the new government program not many cars are left in the streets, cause the cops are allowed to tow em in the car corrals if not currently registered.. so,many people moved em inside to safer places...is all about the economy, and the dealers nowadays are promoting interesting loans to let you buy a new plastic car, makin lot of people get rid of the old useless junk....politics,you know!
Sled: More cars around, and actually really unusual to find a 41 caddy sedanette sittin in the streets, same owner since more than 30 years. Not for sale ,he said. And a very good Ford coupe,it's a common car here in Mexico, seen tons of em and never wanted to buy one yet...i can find one every day,so not a big deal for me.
I'm tryin to get my hands (and camera) in some huge hidden collections too, hopefully soon...stay tuned.
More stuff from that junkyard called Mexico Sled: Still around and more stuff comes up....can't get enuff!!!A Bel Air 53 in the street, not for sale.Common car anyway here,no problem to get a nice one.I had the chance to buy this running 392 Hemi recently to put in my Willys 41 pick up gasser project (Yes,all steel car),was a good score.Sold the car (58 New Yorker coupe) and kept the engine... And just last saturday going to an local flea market i met a couple and they told me that few blocks away there is an old Buick sitting since long time...well,that's the thing.Even when i'm doing something totally different than cars they are still comin to me,lot of fun ....
I was in Toluca a couple of years ago and had Sol .. I loved it and I see signs here in FL but I've never been able to find the real thing.. Like XX lager too .
Haven't tried Sol yet. But am about to have a few Modelo now! Awesome thread Sled. I have been keeping up with all your finds and explorations
Sled: Been scoutin some more stuff, and it payed back...actually i knew these 57 Chevys since long but they are not for sale,so i just took some quick pics.A good example of something typical from DF (Federal District =Mexico City) from the late 50's is this 57 Ford ,very popular paint combination for the taxis back then.. They were called " cocodrilos=crocodiles and you'll got an unrestored one here to look at.. And in another barrio an uncommon find,a Suburban Chevy...not many around of those...this runs and the owner has couple other cars under resto... Usual fun in Tequilaland....
