Sled: A sunday i left to check out some cars in another city...i met the garage owner and he gladly opened up the garage for me...a friendly guy and he showed me some stuff he has hangin on the shop..36 Chevy 3w coupe, a 58 Dodge Sierra wagon all original conds and a A phaeton in driveable conds...Actually i discored also a 62 Corvette on the uncle's gargae just besides this one...i could see the Vette just from a small hole, not enuff to take some shots but i'll be back soon anyway...
Sled: This is a lucky one...Been 2 weeks ago to a classic car rally around the west coast beaches in Jalisco ...Puerto Vallarta,Manzanillo an so on...on the way back we had some dirt in the gas tank or in the fuel lines..so,we had to stop somewhere suddenly to try to fix the problem...still a long way home! And suddenly the 56 Buick vert almost stopped and we pulled on the right ...luckily that was a mechanic there and just in i realized with my surprize....another carved hearse inside there sittin!!NO shit!! It appears to be a 39 La Salle cathedral hearse...still in quite solid conds! The mechanic was adapting a modern drivetrain but the original running flattie and tranny was sittin besides the car....get already the number of the owner to try to know if is for sale or what they wanna do with it....yep,it was my day!!! Sled
LIFESTYLZ,oppss...you're right!!I typed too quick..obviously is a 34 Chevy How was Americarna , mate?? Would love to be visit NZ once, lovely place and plenty junk there... Cheers Sled
Sled, that there is a '57 Dodge Sierra, not '58. Any chance when you go back you can find the trim tag? It will be on the passenger side cowl, or on the passenger side radiator core support. Sure would appreciate if you could get me the numbers there. A picture would be perfect... Fully loaded 9-passenger (rear facing seat, steps on bumper, quarter-panel spare tire well) Dodges don't grow on trees! Thanks- Danny
Gotgas, will do my best tryin to get a picture for ya when i go back there...guy told me is a 58 but i was not sure myself also..actually did not paid so much attention cause is a cutomer's car just sittin in storage. Is totally original ,have more pix of it and the interior too...but since was'nt for sale i just took some shots of it!Cool wagon for sure...1 curios thing : i noticed on the rear door handle the word " Spectator" casted in ...tought was funny but thinkin of it is probably because you can see backwords when sittin on the rear seat...may i wrong?? Acually i have to back there cause in the adiacent property there is a 62 Corvette in good conds that i wanna take a close look soon...
I'll take one old belair w /a trunkfull of mescal, oh yeah and one shrunkin head. hahahahaha, good stuff here brother.
Yes, the Spectator indicates the third seat that faces backward (the difference between a 6-passenger and 9-passenger wagon) Thanks sled!
Welcome Gotgas...geee,really they don't make em like this anymore,eh?? Cool stuff..same as you i love mid 50's and up Mopars...learned one more today, thanks ... PS.an insider secret here...located a werehouse where a trusty source told me there are a good number of 57/58 Plymouths...in any configuration.Guy said like 10/15 cars...can't verify this till i see it with my eyes ..but im workin to go there and take a close look....wish me luck! In that case you guys will know it here...Sled
Sled: what can be said that hasn't been said already. Awesome stuff here. Hey I did not see any 1957 chevy convertibles in all of your posts. Are there any there? Are most restored? Thanks
C57heaven,yes of course we have them..in the classic car rally last week a friend drove a restored turquoise 57 Chevy vert...sorry,i did'nt took any pix of it.... there are couple restored convertibles around and 1 fuelie too,in very good conds...matter of fact you just remind me now that i have some cool unrestored 57 Chevy and Olds convertible pix to post...i'll fix it soon! Ah,i know also way up north an original 57 Vert with dual quad set up!
Sled, not as ,much as when i was kid living there, in the far North where the family come from, the average family car was a Model A ....in the 1970'S~~! Nowadays the Junk is just that Junk, all jappa castoffs bought in cheap . I can remeber working on some really old cars in the garage which were just everyday vehicles for a lot a of folks.
Cool thread Sled. Love looking at all that old tin. Great to see someone doing so much to save this old tin keeping it from the scrapers and getting it in the hands of people who will get good use of it. Keep it up man.
Gasr57,thanks for the support..i try with my limited resources to get as much i can and pass it to anybody interested to...that's the best i can do!If you notice there are no almost moredoor cars in the thread...i try to concentrate in the stuff that is more collectible or interesting...i cannot do better than that...actulaly not even with much more money you can't save them all,is obvious...many of us here on the Hamb are trying the same..i still believe there is lot more interesting stuff yet to be discovered... hey, tomorrow morning starts the official hearse 09 tour...it means i made my plan to go rescue as many hearses i can around ...have already some leads, contacts, drawings ,maps of places and so on...yeah,yeah,you can laugh about it but im dead serious here...wanna find out some cool carved, cathedrals and whatever hearses i can...can't wait to start the hunt!!! Hopefully you'll see some good shit sooon....Sled
Dirtynails,i see....gee,still in the 70's up there they were living almost like in the 30's...kinda remote places,eh?? Totally conservative we can say...almost nothin changed for loooong time,mm!Gotcha! So,you're talkin on the North Island in NZ then, right??
Sled: Some more finds, fellas....a really nice and mostly original 47 Caddy series 62 sedanette..huge body and great flow!Actually this has an Hydramatic tranny on it....very complete and good running...Im amazed about the cool overall conds of this one...
Sled: Just randomly a guy stopped to a dealer to ask if they would be interested to swap this 59 Poncho for a truck he need for his job..then i had the chance to make quick shots at the car...all original drivetrain and mild modified in lowrider style, with wheels ad mural paint on the trunk...it's a Bonnie too!!!
Sled: Hearse tur 09 started...with some results already. As you know i love old hearses among other cars and im really commited to save as many as i can ...Well,here sombebody else saved this one already ..and restored too!Not for sale, actuall he wants to buy more.Lovely wagon,it's a Miller Caddy 54...i'll keep tgoing to track em down....Gotta go!!! Sled
Hey Sled, how far are you from Guadalajara?I have a club member that is down there for two years on his Mormon mission.Yup,he's a missionary, but he's still a hotrodder at heart.

Dirtynails,i'll keep an eye out there but main problem is that these guys look all the same to me...would'nt be easy, but i'll carry your pic in case!! ..hey,thanks fot the hint! Sled
Sled when you find a car you want to buy from some old guy do they always have titles like here in the states & is it a problem getting them transfered..................Bobbyd
Sled: Been to a small swap meet in DF recently, not much stuff there but sure this Impala 64 SS caught my attention..Mexicans are really great painters and they live theier own lifestyle...im always amazed on the crazy attention to the detail they put in theier rides, love em!Dedicated to toda la Raza....Sled
Bobbyd08,well...in most of the cases owners have papers, but it happened that cars from the 30's or whatever year they were just inherited from the family and just sittin forever...and papers were lost. So,there are different ways to go to get papers again uin a legal way... Depends of the province you are too... usually if you wanna buy a car wihout papers(lost, goone or whatever else) you work with the owner (or guy that has the car at that time) and go to a public notary to claim the ownership of the vehicle..if car has still mounted the mex VIN tag from the mex DMV ,that's just great..cause you have series /engine number right away..and the DMV registration number from that time. That will be fast done...wthe public notary will create a notarized sheet with all car dates ,previous owner, the history basically and give NEW legal authenticity to the car...with that on hand you can get new plates easily. Or in the 2nd case without no mex DMV VIN plate on the car you cn put 3 public ads on the local newspaper ,1 every month and see if the previous owner or somebody claims the vehicle...after the 3rd time if nobody shows up you do the same process with the public notary, which provides the rest.... Also if you don't have the drivetrain you can get an invoice from a speedshop or a place where they sell engines..so ,you have proof of provenance, easy. And you'll keep it with the car papers. there are other ways to move also, but basically this works fine..hope you get the general idea. In other words every abandoned vehicle WILL BE easily registreted on the road again and being legal can be exported worldwide including of course USA...actually you gringos are THE only country in the world that do NOT pay import taxes/duties to re-import an american car back to USA..how about that fellas???You probably don't even know this possibility....Sled
