Benzine440,thanks for the cool Cantrell link, already took some time to read it...always somethin new to learn, appreciate it...
SteppinOut , props to you too for postin the pics..still not sure wich brand is to recognize it perfectly but we're gettin there,no doubt...Im sure such woodie truck is a very low production ,no doubt...thanks again
Hey Julio, that's a good one....but im a lone wolf and actually just been back tonight from a scarfin tour today with some good results...pics soon for all of you Hambers... Btw,what's the new project you're talkin about??You get me curious here...
4Woodie,if you look carefully on the front fender of the Dodge coupe there is a factory hole to accomodate the driver side spare wheel...the passenger side fender has the same hole ,so in grandtotal is a 6 wheel car option factory...i will more pics so you can see it better. The spare rims are the same artillery ones, they were sittin besides the car but i forgot to take some shots of em... It's unusual to see a short coupe with 2 extra spare wheels in the fenders..usually such option belongs in much longer cars Yes,it's a rumble seat fitted...cool one really. I was lookin it at the kustom point of wiew anyway and i did'nt like it so much the roof, looks a bit flat to my likin ...deserves to be left stock,or in other words...i would'nt chop it
Erlomd, cool stories up there in Tijuana man...love to hear more cause is really far away from me..i usually move more in the middle of Mexico but im tryin to take a look upthere soon,i got some contacts anyway...i know there are plenty cars there too...well,there are plenty areas to visit but being alone it takes forever ,plenty room to scarf.... And glad to hear the positive vibe also, so for many that are wondering about cars imported from Mexico you see above they can be easily registered back in USA,appreciate the first hand infos ...useful for all US guys interested in buy cars from down here... Tell us more stories on your finds...many love to hear such finds and you sure have the right attitude, cool ...sled
sled, mostly these guys want to know your process. i took some heat over this because i told them to ask you first..my bad i guess. but can you post up how they can do it..that is buy from you and get them over here?
hotrod-Linkin...you mean the process/ways of exporting cars from Mexico to US?? If so it will take a while...let me finish some stuff and i'll be back later to try to put some infos for ya fellas...is not hard at all anyway
ok sled,i send a lot of cars out,but never in. i sold 300 cars in the last 2 years and most went out of country.i have 78 left in the barn . they probably won't ever sell.
ill ask my friend next time I see him for a more definite answer on the title transfer to the US....there are lots of nice cars down there that people dont see why someone else would want it....love them people!
Message from Sled: 4Woodie,see what i mean on 6 wheel option??You can see it better on these pics the front fender space for the spare tire...also notice in the back on this Dodge the luggage rack ,factory too.
Hotrod-Linkin,here we go finally....actually i wrote this morning a long answer but for unknown reasons i was late in adding it up and did'nt go thru here...looks like there is a time limit on put answers on and then i needed to sign up again..try to reduce the infos to the basic, but anybody can chime in and ask whatever question you have... basically is perfectly legal to re-import old US cars from Mexico made back to mother contry...and is very simple!!There is no reason to be scared of... I did personally crossed the US border (Laredo TX,bridge 2) couple times with old US cars sold to USA...i just show the mexican papers to US customs, they went around with drug dogs as any other car and that was it...went thru, easy and no hassles at all. I know is even better if an US citizen crosses thru wih the car both on trailered or running will be no problem at all...some US guys did it and it works perfectly NO import fees or taxes or you US citizens to pay whatsoever...none!!You're lucky fellas...anybody else in the world pays heaps of money to import an old car or bike....and fees are gettin higher..so,dont complain here!! I can make couple examples more but let's post this one first...ask any question you might have and i will do my best to answer all of em as far my possibilities are... I used ONLY Laredo TX ,bridge 2 cause is the closest US border i have...and the US customs guys there are car nuts,i know it..they do love cars and once they even forget to ask me papers of 1 of the cars i was crossing..funny but true! Ok,more later ...sled
thanks sled i hope this helps those that want your good cars. during the 2 day ordeal, there was nothing negative said about your business. keep looking for old cars jim
Hotrod-Linkin and anybody else interested in buy cars from here just please ask any question you might have...will do my best to answer to all... Ah,totally forgot....to cut the crap and make things simple i did arrange shipping logistics directly sendin the mexican cars directly inside US border, again Laredo TX being the closest border i have...so,is not necessary to spend unwanted time and unnecessary risks being around here if you dont want to or not havin the time to....there are lots of misinformation about Mexico from USA...there are some serious political reasons that bring to this points but let's jump off this crap and talk about cars... So,in my personal case if somebody wants to buy a car and we set a deal i will ship the car directly inside US ,Laredo TX...or even at customers door destination but is matter to agree togheter what's the best ...of course shipping goes at buyer's expense. This will minimize risks to be on the roads in Mexico if it helps.... I dont want that this posts looks like personal advertising or such but i dont have any other way to explain export logistics, sorry if looks a bit O/T Also there are already some hambers taht came into Mexico and bought cars ,crossed easily the US border and they re-registered the car there in theier state...i would like to hear some personal experiences here cause i live this side of the pond,i cant say how it works there and every state has different rules... But basically once you show the car and numbers with papers to the local DMV you should obtain easily the title.... later, Sled
Hotrod-Linkin,thanks for the kind support...let me say that ignorance and misinformation does NOT help anybody anywhere unfortunately... Im not aware what was the noise about me and my stuff but then what i can say being around for example downtown LA in the wrong places??? It would be scary as hell... I feel quite comfortable here but of course there are drug dealer problems and more shit and many US people thinks that all Mexico is like the real creepy border stories...is science fiction for us too, that's NOT the real warm Mexico...forget that stuff fellas,we hate that shit too but politically is gettin outta control....everybody is payin a price for that crap!! Story is that the good people and assholes are in every place,no matter what country...just try to keep an open minded vision and not talk negative shit only because you've heard some stories and the stupid TV news wich are just talkin shit with a purpose.... Well, again please ask pertinent questions and will do my best to answer...if i can help to clear up things, then i will be happy to do it... Back on the fun side now fellas....Sled
Thanks bro, already answered you on the PM side twice... again, since we are on Hamb i will gladly explain more infos to anybody that has the wish to buy some stuff from Mexico,at list anybody can see that there is no mistery or no reason to be scared ..is actually very simple! Let's keep up the fun here ....ah,i got more stuff to show off too...stay tuned!
As always, thanks for the info Sled! Once across the border to the US, I don't see why it'd be any harder than a field car to register. I don't know if I'd even use any mexican paperwork at all, it seems like it may be easier just to register it as a no-title car. I've driven throught mexico and central america, it's not really a big deal for the most part. In a lot of ways the drivers in mexico are more courteous and observant than in the US. If you see a stick in the ground by the side of the road with a can on it, look out! Truck drivers will signal for you when it's safe to pass them on the 2 lane highway, people hit their flashers to warn others when there's something dangerous. In the countryside people look out for each other, it's really nice. Just watch out for those damn tumulos! They're where you least expect them! I've also never been anyplace that was nearly as bad as news reports made it out to be, in the US or south of the border. Well except for maybe Detroit.
Yep,that will be nice from ya..it will help many US guys clarify a bit more on this subject..actually like Johnny1920 said later i dont think your local DMV will ever use the mexican papers...i know that they will inspect car checkin the numbers and then just move on gettin a new US title right away...i've heard it cost no more than 50 bucks or less. These are general infos that i get thru the years and always been curious myself to hear how really is,so let's put some examples down the table to help other fellers too...
Johnny1920 , welcome anytime... One thing i dont like it here is the truck drivers, especially if you're riding a motorcycle...watch out!! And the "tumulos" you mention they must be "TOPES" ,right?? They are speedbumps and i hate em ,really...gee,i think i put em overnight cause you see some new ones suddenly and you're askin where the hell comes from ??In the most unexpected places sometimes,ridicolous...i dont have any pic but the most funny thing is theere is a waring signal just on the sme line of the "Tope",so is too late to brake...funny shit!! That's the worse enemy on the la Carrera Panamericana..if you miss one, you're history....Gary Faules, are you listening??
that's it Topes.....or that GD SOB when you hit one!! I like the guy that's making a career out of painting one, so you'll throw him change when you slow down for the dumb thing. Money well spent, however! At least you can see the guy painting it so you might know to slow down! I'm sure if you live in the area you know every inch of that road, so you don't get caught by the things. But could they at least maybe paint a line 100 feet *before* the thing to warn a guy?!? Guess not. I think painting it is so people don't trip over it, rather than warning drivers!!
You guys in the States have it real sweet. Try getting a car into NZ. Paperwork is tough and cost even worse. Taxes on top of taxes and fumigation, registration, etc. But if we can do it then you guys have it real easy..
Johnny1920,that's for sure some mexican folklore funny shit,no doubt...you made me laughin here, but you're right...makes no sense and i dont know who in the hell can plan some shit like this.,.they are really impossible to see also for me...no way to see those speedbumps in the night,crazy....such things are still far from a normal way of life, nobody's perfect..you see!!
LIFESTYLZ mate, you made me remember that side of the world really...Aussies and kiwis pay HEAPS of money to just live the dream somehow...and everything is costy down there since they have to import just about everythin...good remind here So US fellers, don't complain much ...you're the lucky ones
Message from Sled: This was last week in DF /Mexico City tour...after the many calls i do to all my contacts there when im there i talked with a pal o mine that owns some Caddies 47/54 convertibles that i wanted to check out...he told me he moved the cars in another storage far away,so i could'nt see em but he mentioned this 59 Buick vert he has in storage...he gave me the direction and it was luckily close by so off i went...here some shots of the monster! Not sure if is an Electra 225 ,it was all electric windows and seats equipped...no matter anyway as im not interested to spend my time in such project...too new for me!
Sled: Been invited this last weekend from a friend o mine for lunch togheter with a bunch of other guys of the local car club..im a lone wolf myself but i hang out with lots of car people anyway and in Mexico generally people always invites me for lunch, dinner or havin some cervezas ..is part of the local tradition and it's really a friendly spontaneous attitude, kinda cool... So this is my buddy Chava's car collection...he just finished this garage with integrated diner...not bad at all,i'll say...hope you like it fellas...more to come!!
More from Sled: Here's some more of Chava's collection...he realized his dream finally and im in the process to find him in US a nice restored polished alluminum Airstream trailer to go on holidays in style...if somebody has a nice restored one 14 to 22" 1 axle for sale drop me a PM,please...he has a bunch of old bicycles and americana stuff all over there, cool shit...
