Mexico is a HUGE country! It all depends on where you're going. Destination please. -stick

If rockin' gigs include Sammy Hagar and Ricky Martin, then your in luck! As for cars, well they make do with what they have for the most part. I have spent a lot of time down there, Baja and Mainland and almost never see a car worth checking out. Go surfing, get drunk, lay on a beach, buy tourist junk, forget about car's and music. If you want a cool car vacation, go to Cuba.

  5. +1 That is actually a real thing. Remember, what happens in Mexico, stays-you know the rest.

Just some advice here. I don't know where you're going, but I will never again go to Baja California. I know someone that drove down to the beach near Rosarita with his girlfriend. The first night they was there, they were robbed at gunpoint, he was knocked out and she was raped. The cops beat him up and somehow they came back to the states after several days with no answers or satisfaction.

I hear ya. But I'm going to make a wild projection here and say that, In my opinion, the police in the U.S. are generally far less likely to demand money and beat you up if you come to them for help. And I have heard of that many times in baja. I even gave a cop fifty bucks when we got pulled over once. Don't get me wrong, They're not all like that, just a few isolated incidents, but I'm too freaked out to go there now. But maybe it's just cause it hit close to home once. As far as the good ol days, fish tacos and corona on the beach was one of the mose enjoyable experiances I've ever had.

It's true Baja has had a lot of trouble. I have been going for years without trouble, but I have had some people close to me have some serious shit happen. I guess why things are fucked up down there is because we busted one of the major drug kingpin's of TJ. Since he has been removed all the small timers have been killing each other and some tourists. It's really sad, and I know they are trying to fix it. Baja is pretty dependent on tourism and they are hurting. I miss the days when the cops where the only thing to worry about down there.

While your down there lookin for rockin dudes or wild and crazy guys ,see
if you can spot our stolen truck and trailer.
It was last seen headed that direction.
    Trailer and pickup were white.
If you see it walk up and kick the SOB's in the nuts.

    We'll send lawyers,guns and money.

  16. That's the spot! Just go drunk, late at night when it's dark, it ain't so bad. Just make sure you go in a pack.

I'm a Florida boy so I definitely don't know shit about Mexico compared to a lot of these guys from So-Cal who practically grew up taking weekend trips there. But I went a few months ago so I have somewhat of a viewpoint.

I was in Cabo in October, and it kicked ass.

But then, from what I've heard Cabo is kind of a Disney version of Mexico and not nearly as rough as the rest of it. If you happen to be going to Cabo, and you're expecting Mexico to be "cheap", go ahead and let that idea go because it's way fucking expensive. A bottled water that would cost $1.50 here was $6.00 or $7.00 there.

The people were nice, the food was awesome, the fishing was off the charts, there were hot chicks everywhere (though about 80% of 'em were there with rich dudes), and the waves were looking pretty nice too. Unfortunately for me I didn't have a board to take, and I didn't have an additional 5 bones to drop while I was there to get one. So I sat on the beach and watched glassy overhead barrels breaking like 40 or 50 feet offshore (that totally sucked).

Anyway, I didn't see ANY old cars while I was there. The closest thing I saw to hot-rodding were some tuner dudes in hopped up Acura Integas doing 100+plus past the shuttle from the airport at like 11pm at night.

As mentioned earlier, forget about hot rods and customs for a week and enjoy the trip. Hell, even if there would have been any hot rod related stuff, I probably would have skipped it anyway. I'll take a day of surfing or fishing over a day looking at stuff in a museum any day.

You might consider getting those anti-bacterial pills to keep you from getting the revenge. I was shitting my guts up for a week when I got home. It wasn't pretty. :(

Also, i was once about to go on a surf trip with some buddies. I ended up not going, which is good because when they were down there a couple dudes somehow convinced them that the beach was theirs, and they had to pay to surf. They gave them 20$ or so and as soon as they got out in the water the dudes stole their car and all their shit. Dumbasses left they're keys in a wrapped up towel. Luckily they were driving a 1200$ mid eighties van. They came home wearing only their wetsuits. I thought it was funny.

You know places like cabo and resorts give you a real false idea of the real mexico. People begging in the streets, nasty ass towns, piss flowing out of buildings into the street, poeple starving, kids following you begging, you have to tell them no are you have to give to every kid around there, seen places where they had dogs tied up behind eating places and it sure looked like dogs they had skinned hanging and eating, made me want to turn them loose and tell them to run, seen women laying in the streets starving with babys begging. Had cops follow me around like i was a criminal only to find out they wanted some of my tobacco. Before i would eat or drink anything there i'd drink my own piss. People living in houses if you could call them that with walls made of cardboard. Ya best listen to dreddybear you can get in trouble fast! Again i'm not talking about your resorts, i'm talking back where the real people live. Hell i dont know just telling what ive seen, Shit hole!

Unless you like vw bugs.... One of my favorite parts of acapulco is all the crazy bug cabs with their stereos and ground effects.

  23. Unfortunately there are places like that all over the world. We are spoiled here, a trip down there will make anyone appreciate how good we have it.

Ive been going to mexico routinely for 30 years. Ive driven, walked, surfed, skateboarded, stumbled, ran, and jumped from The San Diego border to the tip of Baja on numerous occasions. When I was 17 me and 2 buddys loaded up his moms 1973 Impala station wagon and surfed every spot from the border to the tip. We were gone for 3 months, and never EVER had any problems- ever.

There is far more heinous crimes going down in the U.S. everyday then Mexico. I admit, bad things sometimes happen to good people, but I know that if you go into another country with blinders on, assuming the victim role, you will attract negative attention.

    Enjoy your vacation!

    Sounds like Washington D.C.

Can you really say this is what an entire Country is like? Maybe Juarez or TJ or something. Jeezus.

You're right, For sure. But you have to admit it's not the same there as it used to be. I had a blast there when I was a teenager too. But all of the sudden it just kinda seemed like EVERYONE I knew was having horrible scary experiences. Right around 2000 or so. Be honest would you let your 18 year old daughter go on a "trip with friends" to baja? Crime for crime the US is worse of course, but U.S. kids are targets there now.
