I know I have been MIA for a while, but the holidays got kinda hectic. Worked on the car very little. When I did work on it, I broke more parts than I did put things together. So now I need a new crank pulley. Anybody have one for a y block by any chance? No bells and whistles on my engine. There is a guy here locally that I can get one from, but I have to pull it myself. I dont have a puller. Would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out. Thanks for your time.

If nobody here has the pulley you need, you can rent/borrow a crank pulley puller from O'Reilly stores, and others. You'll need to leave a deposit equal to the value of the puller, but the deposit is refunded when tool is returned in good condition. So it actually costs nothing. See your Ford manual for instructions on how the pulley is properly removed without damage.

    Good luck! :)

Rocky, I just want to forewarn you that on "some" Y-Block balancers that the outer ring may have spun and you might have difficulty timing your engine.
Also don't use a puller that grabs the pulley by the outer edge.

Or for $14.99 stop by Harbor Freight and ask for this: Pittsburg 37824-OVGA I have had this puller for over 4 years and it has worked great it, comes with a lot of different size bolts and can also do steering wheels.

Thanks guys for the advice. Think I'm gonna go with Jeffs idea since I am going to have to pull my steering wheel anyways.

Here is what the engine currently looks like. Got it put in and now just trying to get the throwout bearing to stay in place for the trans. For some reason it only catches on two of the teeth for the pressure plate. Dont know if I have the wrong pressure plate or what.

Hey Rocky! on www.cruisinarizona.com there is a Rockabilly music and Car show and swap meet Feb.7 at Peoria Sports Complex, check it out! On your throwout bearing, since your 292 came from a truck originally it may be different from a car throwout bearing? the bearing listed for a '54 is very common in other makes of cars and trucks it should measure 3.14" O.D. and 1.625" I.D.
