Michigan license plate size

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sfm1951, Mar 17, 2013.

  1. I picked up a license plate frame from Berger Chevy in Grand Rapids, MI.
What years were the bigger plates? The frame has 8 3/4" between the top holes, and 4 3/4 between the top and bottom holes. I want to find a plate and put in it, and hang on the wall along side my Grand Rapids, MN. frame. Thanks, Steve

the old plates were in several different sizes. The bigger the number, the bigger the plate.
Some had 1 letter and 3 numbers, some had 3 letters, and 3 numbers, etc.

here is many to choose from

  3. I forgot to add the frame holds a plate about 13 3/4 x 6 Steve

  4. That was the standard more or less plate size until 1957 when the standard was set at 6 x 12.

  5. Thanks, safariaknut
