Never been to California have you? Here in the peoples republic of Clovis you can be ticketed/have your car towed away for having expired registration.......in your driveway.
sure. lived there. but what does that have to do with br*** knux as a shifter? as long as your papers are good, how can they h***le you for this?
No.....I've had my copy for a while, it was the hardest one of the set for me to find too.....I think I paid $20 bucks for it.
Speaking as an old people, he could be the first person with a live microphone gearshift knob to have the living **** beat out of him at the next stoplight!!!
My buddy used to play b*** for Ted Nugent, during the Glory days (Cat Scratch Fever, Stranglehold, Wang Dang Sweet ****tang, Call of the Wild, etc etc) and is using one of the heads off one of his old destroyed Fender P-B*** guitars..
The threads at the mount of the Shure 55 mic are 5/8 - 27. The threads on most standard shifters are 3/8 - 18. At least that's a close guess on the shifter side. Question for those who have mounted this microphone on a shift stick, How did you do it? Adapter? JB Weld? Weld? What's the best way to mount it given the difference in thread sizes?
Nah, actually if you look at that first picture I posted, James is standing there huffin and puffin about his shifter being broke. He wasn't exactly nice to me on ANY level.....I got the "I'm not signing autographs" speech. He stopped short tho when I said "ah that's good, I only wanted to see the car". Ohhhhhhhhh SNAP!
The microhone member - Luckystiff- posted pics of is an Electrovoice "MERCURY" model mic. It would be appropriate in a Merc jalopy. The Shure 55 which is the focus of this thread is the cl***ic "Elvis" mic. It's also 'frickin huge!. There is a smaller version - the model 55S (S for smaller) which is still in production and is availble used for well under @ $100 usually. http://search.ebay.com/shure-55s_W0QQfnuZ1 This ones currently bid at $9.99: http://cgi.ebay.com/Shure-55S-Unidyne-Microphone_W0QQitemZ7403511800QQcategoryZ41465QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I'd bet good money you could and it would prolly be REAL wise so as not to have it break off while driving down the road!
Not a problem: There is an available adapter 5/8x27 to 3/8x18 from AKG sold by pro audio vendors: http://www.fullcomp***.com/Products/pages/SKU--14522/index.html http://www.fullcomp***.com/ImageFromDB.aspx?imgid=11145 Powerband
I work at a recording studio for my day job and do a lot of equipment repairs as well, and have repaired a few 555's (the model 55 is a later mic with a standard unidyne, and later an SM58 capsule in it, the 555 is the 50's original, and what is seen in the Hetfield car), and the magnet inside the mic is quite heavy. Removing that will help a lot. I also should have a few of the above mentioned adaptors at the studio in a box of junk, as they come with most new AKG and Sennheiser mics. I'll see what I can dig up from you, as most dealers wont stock them, they will want to order it (although they should have plenty lying around, not many mic stands in the US use a 3/8" thread, they wind up getting tossed into the parts bin) Also, there are a ton of cool dynamic mics that are similar and not so well known. there are a lot of EV's that are cool, and can be had for less money than a Shure 555, which actualy sound awful. I'm a mic collector, but I dont have one, they are the 57 chevy of vintage dynamic mics, everyone has one.
Lucky, I'd like to possibly get that from you. Chad, I'd appreciate the adapter too, that would be sweet. I plan to gut the mic out yes because I know they are pretty darn heavy. Looking on Ebay I like a lot of these mics and now I am thinking about collecting them. They look darn sweet and some come with the mini stands which I can put on a book shelf. Dat Dirty Rat, I am going to try to give you a call Friday night about all those trim parts, etc that you have. I'd still like to see the pics first but I really need to jump on these parts and get them no later than 2 weeks if possible. Thanks guys!
i couldn't agree with what chad said more. the original 555 is the big dog to collectors, yes i do have one, but are not really the best sounding or to me really the best looking of all the mics of that time. in fact i think i've only used mine once or twice and that just because it had the exact tinny sound i wanted when recording one part to like one song. i prefer several EVs(electrovoice) over the shure tone wise. smf, just let me know as it put it up for you first and if you p*** then it goes on to the next guy. collecting them for display is cool. i used to display most of my collection. i had about 40 mics at one time. moved and i never redid the display and actually sold some of the collection off also. lots of weird old **** like this that if you start looking at it right will make great decor. vintage cameras and projectors are another good one. i also have plans to one day do a wall of floating(hidden brackets) vintage tyoewriters as thats another of my weird collections. only problem i've ran into is i have to select the right wall as those old typewriters are rrrrreeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyyyyy heavy and to do what i'm thinking is going to be m***ive weight. i just think it would be visually crazy to walk into a home and see a bunch of early typewriters floating off a wall. haha...ken....
why because i have vision? haha. some have it some don't. my job went to night shift a few weeks ago and my schedule is screwed so i stay up way to late and ****. oh and yes i'm going out to work on the vw shortly along with the plymouth and the buick. hahaha...ken....
i Did Mine Last Year Before Viva custom Bent Shift Lever And Circa 1942 (as Dated On Backside Of Microphone) Working Microphone. Its Not A Shure But I Figured They Were Played Out, That Why I Went With The Strange Looking One..lol
Update! Well guys I am getting the microphone from Ken (Luckystiff). I will put up pictures when I get this thing on the car. The car is still in the build process and should be done in 5 months the most I am hoping. I am getting the body work done and going to start final priming and paint. After that the car goes back together and wired up and interior in. Damn, it sounds so easy but I know it's going to be a pain in the ***...
Nope, the name 55S is not for Small. It's just a later model. The big model 55 was made from 1939 and up to mid-50's. The first version had different impedance and was named A, B and C. In 1947, they made a switch so you could use only one mic with different settings. In 1951 the new smaller model came out, but the name was still 55. You had versions with rubbermounting called 556 and these were made already from the first models and up. Doesn't matter, just some trivia. My two cents is: Don't use that standard old mike that you could buy in every second hand store or just new in shop all over the world. Get a more unique and cool one. And maybe not too big. Like these Turner 33's... ROCKETEER here we come! And most important! Look here for steel adaptors to weld to your shifter. Then you can buy a small threaded "ring" to adjust the direction of the mic and lock it there. http://www.atl***ound.com/support/SLSheets/SL11.1398.PDF Keep-a-rockin' people! J.B.
I went on Ebay and bought an old MGD beer tap that had a resin molded elvis mic on the end. fits in my hand and is light weight! everyone asks where I got the mic from! check it out there are about 4 more on there for about $30! cheap and easy.I'll post pics when I get off work.
Played out. Van Chase is making them in resin. So unfortunately the average chump won't know the difference and will just think you bought a shift knob from somewhere. As for Hetfield. He's always very nice to me and makes the effort to come to me to shake my hand and say "hi" at events. I've heard stories about him being cheap, but I guess you don't get rich by giving your money away. I know - I give mine away all the time.
