maybe it's an engine from a biscane.
    (however, it's spelled.) or a chevy2???

((at least we don't have to suggest corvair.))

    Hey @squirrel and @Moriarity
This is exactly why the engine block stamping's are so correct and consistent, its because of the special fonts and special tool carrier known as a "GANG STAMP"

    flint_engine_stamp.jpg
    gangstamp.jpg

That last "F", no matter how close it looked to the others, it wasn't applied with the correct gang stamp.
More likely than not, somebody tried to use a set of Miller's Fall's letter's, to try to fool who ever wasn't paying close attention.

Wow, I managed to go though the whole 36 pages of the thread today. Makes me feel like a slacker in comparison as far as getting something done goes.

just need to give the folks here a little taste of how wacko they get over there....

Anyways, I signed up for Power Tour West 2023, to take the Corvette to Irwindale, Vegas, and Pomona (and the 75th Hot Rod Magazine anniversary party?) this December. And taking my wife, the last day is our 40th anniversary.

Should be another wild adventure. They will be letting folks run at the drag strips, so I may have to bring my helmet. Slicks not required for this one, so more room in the trunk!

no, she's pretty good at traveling light. We took her even smaller off topic sports car on a long trip a few months ago, and it all fit in the tiny trunk.

When my wife would ask how much room is there for her stuff, I would reply...........
"It depends on if I bring more than one pair of extra skivvies for myself".

Yes I am still doing research and a lot of comments on the originality of this 62 I got from daughter
Her father bought it in 63 and she had a lot of knowledge and receipts that came with the car

    Thanks Gary
That makes sense as they would not unload that gang stamp and use the same “F” that was the first position in the stamp.
When I was in high school I took printing and we had many letters in the box of “F” s
So you right it is not the same as the first F

If it's worth $20k or more to fake the second F, then there is an awful lot of motivation to fake it...that's the basic problem with trying to figure out if an engine is original. Without lots of other supporting documentation, it's safer to assume it's not original.

But that don't matter on my car. So I don't really care too much.

If you go back and look close at the stamping you can plainly see that the second F is not from the same set of (proprietary) characters that Chevrolet used to stamp blocks. You can plainly see that the bar (cross stroke part of the F that is in the ctr top to bottom) is not the same as the first F distance wise. the bar in the second F is closer to the top and the first F the bar is at the midpoint. even though they are gang stamped and it is not the same letter if it appears twice, they surely would not use a letter that does not match their proprietary letter set. that stamping is certainly a fake....

Last I was at Carlisle there was a guy in the north field that would stamp anything you wanted on a block he was selling.

  17. Blame it on the fact that our eyes and our brains seem to be calibrated to work best when light sources are at eye level or above. It's a part of how our minds decide whether we're standing upright or hanging by our heels. When the main light source seems to come from below eye level, confusion (or delusion) can ensue.

Now that it's getting cool out, it's time for heat. I've spent the past few days getting the heater installed in the Vette. I got to reseal the Ranco valve, and build a defroster box as well. It's all back together, and ready for the first cool evening test drive!

The heater works. But it does leak a little at the valve, the new repop washer did seem a bit thin around the outer edge. Oh well.

20231106_052519.jpg Drove my Vette to work this morning. Figured it was a good time before it got too cold and wet. No heat or defrost+ no wipers. It was all good till I hit the 5 freeway and suddenly there was heavy fog at 5 am....I'm thinking yours might be a bit more street friendly than mine Jim:D

  24. Nice box Squirrel :D.

Creative plumbing with a ball valve and a computer fan in my future for my '28. But it will have an old heater housing.

I ordered an NORS heater valve for it, but when it arrived a week later, it was the wrong one. So I figured I'd try NAPA and see if they had any of the old Ranco repair kits, sure enough, there was one in stock at the local store. I bought it, and put it in the original valve from this car (the one I did before was a valve that a friend gave me, it might be from his 62). It's in place now, and I need to go on a test drive and see if this one will work without leaking.

Notice the most interesting part of this picture is the presence of a lady in the passenger seat.
