    now you're talkin

I got back from my trip, started tinkering again. I got some new tires, I settled for radials for this car for now, after the fun I've been having with bias tires on Plan II. Oh well.

I put that door on, so it would look like I'm making some progress.

Took apart the windshield frame, looks like it's all still useable. The glass is broken, so I'll have to get new, but the rest of it looks ok. I did some cleaning/polishing on the stainless and castings, they're a bit beat up, but still intact and not much pitting. Before and after picture.

I looked at the gauge cluster a little bit, just to get a quick idea of what it might need. I'm thinking I ought to just send the speedo and tach to Rusty and have him get them working right. The tach was serviced almost 50 years ago, and the speedo acts like the odometer is stuck, the shaft turns part of a turn then sticks.

I'm working on a list of stuff to order to start putting things back together further. Looks like the windshield and dash pad are some of the first things to go on the body, then I can put more parts back on, so it's probably time to start ordering some stuff.

I still need to plan the trip back to California to pick up the engine and transmission....of course there are some other things going on this coming week that will probably delay that. Hopefully the first week in June I can get it done.

I'm not interested in improving stuff like that, but yeah you can buy different suspensions for them. I'm just going to use stock stuff and make sure it's all in decent condition, and replace only the parts that need replacing.

Thanks, my car came with new gaskets, that's the only new rubber pieces it had. I think they're all in good condition still, too. They are several years old.

That red paint is polishing out nicely! I like your approach to this. Get it together and get it running and make a nice driver out of it.

The paint looks pretty bad up close, but then again I doubt I could do it much better myself....

I have lived the latter half of my life in a midlife crisis. Always building a hot-rod. Never got caught up in the boat/camper/motor home world but 20 years ago I had a Harley crisis which took 10 years to extinguish and more recently a new Yellow Corvette convertible which now has also passed. At 78 I may have had my last midlife crisis but you never know?

Man, that would be sad. May you have many more. What's life without them...........
By the way, there is no crisis in anything you mentioned. Things like golf are a freakin'crisis.....

Heck, you don't need to put ALL the parts back on, just make you a black painted roll bar and maybe put some stripes on it............

Is your wife blonde? If not, a brunette would look good sitting up there also but hey, I'm not trying to add to your mid-life crisis ;).

I doubt I could get her to ride up there, but the passenger seat is a possibility.

I've been tinkering. Body is now bolted to the chassis. The bumpers are all on.

I even put some old fashioned primer over the bodywork...it kind of hides how bad it is, unless you actually look at it. But it'll do for now.

I've also been continuing the inventory of parts, and started ordering stuff! What fun, spending money is.

Right now I'm tinkering with the wiper transmission, it's a fun game with cables, clutches, etc. I found some detailed info online about how to get things back where they go.

Corvette parts certainly seem to be more expensive than other Chevrolet models:eek: I think Scotty refered to it as the Corvette tax....
