I weld a little to get the tip warm, then just dip it in to coat it and keep welding. I like it. It really does help the tip from getting all coated in spatter.

Not sure if it prolongs the life of the consumables, but certainly makes the spatter come off without a fight.

It's cheap, give it a try and then you'll know.

  4. Dip it every once in a while while you are welding, you don't have to do it everytime you let go of the trigger.

VonMoldy........as the others have said ....get that tip and shroud hot and ....dip ya tip .....and let the excess run out and the spatter will be a lot easier to flick out when cleaning ........another good thing is anti spatter spray to spray onto your job that you are welding to stop the spatter adhering to you work , just spray around your area where you are gunna weld , and the spatter will just ball up and roll off ...saving a lot of clean up and give you a much more professional looking weld

I use Joy dishwashing liquid. Works just as goo, its way cheaper and smells good too! I have a small metal cantainer I dip it in after the tip is hot. FEDER

Old welder's trick: Use Vicks Vapo-Rub as an anti-spatter. Works great and costs less. Also clears your sinuses in the Winter.

...Hi I am new to the welder -can you give me some more info on the lube patches and how is a piece of scotch brite attached to the welder??...I have used the nozzel tip lube, and found after a lot of use it collects some fine bids of metal in the bottom of the plastic container which got into the tip and cloged it...Thanks Miller

  10. one trick a visitor to my workshop (a fellow boilermaker) swore by was to use wd-40. im stubborn and just dont use anything and spend all day cleaning my nozzles out. good setup helps avoid clogging but even that will only get you so far. anti spatter works a charm on the work piece but dont use too much or you will have porous welds everywhere

I burn wire the better part of 9 hrs. a day and only use nozzle dip very sparingly, maybe once or twice a day. Don't like the smell or the mess. If your wire speed and amperage are adjusted right, use a argon/02 mix, clean your weld joint, and use quality wire, splatter shouldn't be a big problem. Yes, it can be dipped too far, if you get it up in the gas diffuser you will get porosity and it will blow that stinky **** all over your work.

Any welding supply shop will have the felt wire cleaners, they are just a roll of felt with a slit in it, slips over the wire before the rollers and is held with a metal clip. Over the years I've seen guys use everything from rags to cigarette ****s for the same purpose. Personally I never remember to put them on and don't worry about it.
