Mig welding in Tight places!!

    I had a buddy that made one from a broken welding helmet. He cut out the face portion and bolted it onto a dowel, worked very well for getting into tough spots, did nothing for the spatter down the neck.

    A good few hours of tacking my rear quarters on, got my eyelids sunburnt pretty good.

    Many years ago when I was in the Navy I watched welders in the shipyards working with mirrors. They could get behind impossible places and it worked great. I have tried it and it looks easier than it is.

    I worked with a guy that had a mask like the old fuel mask. It was made from goat skin to be soft to fit close to his face. Any place he could stick his head in the mask would fit. He could weld looking into a mirror just as well as most people can do looking straight at the arc. I met him when he was welding water wall tubes in a boiler. That is a very tight place to weld. All 500+ welds of his p***ed xray, not bad.
