I was looking at an "ol School rods" mag last week at the store and saw an article on a new type of strut rod that comes off the lower control arm and makes almost a 90 degree bend and bolts right back to the crossmember/control arm pivot bolt. Anyone know where to get these? Of course I didn't buy the mag. I'd love to get my stock strut rods out of the way of my exhaust and this looks really easy.

    Thanks.

You'll get several opinions about this on here. The lower pivot bolt isn't a very good candidate to absord the stress of braking. That job is better left to the frame rails.

I used that setup on my '48 Chevy pickup, worked great!

Yeah, But if you weld in a gusset where it meets the crossmember it's just like a cheaper version of the wider aftermarket control arms only utilizing the stock one. I would think the load would be distributed over the crossmember if done correctly.

The ones I used were made and sold through Allan Rod & Custom in Calgary Alberta. 403-285-1099

That looks a little weak to me, too. Heidt's has ones that mount to the frame but only a few inches from the crossmember. Seems like a more sturdy option to me, and still gets the strut rods moved forward quite a bit. I'm thinking about putting them on my car.

  11. Leave the strut rods stock and build your exhaust to suit.

    Priorities !!
