a HUGE thank you to Mike O. him and his buddy Justin came all the way 2 1/2 hours from "the thumb" to help me out in the shop today, and i'm glad, i was in over my head with this painting business. i'm a metal fabricator NOT a painter. well between Mike Justin and myself we managed to get all the black REdone on the body of the Bug but unfortunately we had another "issue" with the HOK green. i'm going to strip ALL the green back down, reprime and get it ready for paint AGAIN and we are gonna start over on the part that needs to be green. the black looked so good Mike cleared it so it is DONE! looks DAMN GOOD too, one very light sag which i think is AMAZING considering how much clear he laid down. anyway, Mike has offered to come all the way back here next weekend to help redo the green. or rather, to redo the green while i sit back and watch. i just think it is amazing that this guy i never met before today has gone so far out of his way to help us, thats rare. i also have to thank my good friends*****O, HOTRODDRUMMER and PINBALL for coming out and lending a hand.*****o actually was the only one to make it out saturday and the two of us worked on MAKING some wide whites for Cherry Blossom's truck. i wanted to surprise her with them when she got back from vacation. she was pleased. we actually got two done saturday and while i was picking CB up at the Michigan/Indiana border*****o was back here grindin on the other two tires. he did a great job. PINBALL worked the wrenches and tore the bumpers and a few other doohickies off the 47 Chev while HRD tore into the front end, repacked the bearings and set the alignment back into shape. unfortunately just about the time he was gonna put the new Cherry Bombs on the Chevy the rain came, and came hard. HRD headed for home and*****o, Pinball and CherryBlossom did some parts chasin for the paint crew, then CB whipped up a delicious dinner for the crew. all in all a pretty productive day and a good day hangin with my friends, which i don't get to see too often, and makin a couple new friends. let me tell you guys, Mike O is one helluva painter/pinstriper. great stuff from someone not yet 30 (he's 29 like me ).. in this pic you can ALMOST see MikeO through the cloud of clearcoat. believe it or not we have less dirt in the paint this time than we did the last time, and last time we used a paint booth, this time was in my dirty-ass shop ....
had a great time out at killer kustoms today. mike o and justin, it was a pleasure meeting you. it still amazes me how generous and helpful the hambers are! thanks for the eats cherry. hope to see ya all at billetproof!!!!!!!!!
the pics do not do it justice, it all really does look so much better in person. i got a peak at Caffiene's choppa tank too, it is SWEEEEET!!...
Mike, It looks like yer gettin a lot done. MikeO certainly seems like a cool guy. We will have to get him to some of the Gay Michigan******es get togethers. Those guys from the Thumb are OK aren't they
[ QUOTE ] Hey Mike, if you don't mind me axin , what was the other "issue" with the HOK green? [/ QUOTE ] Something to do with the green that was sprayed the first time....they wet sanded it down, put more white base over it, the sprayed the green, and the green underneath didnt agree with the green on top. Apparently there was something wrong with the original green - MikeO said it didn't feel right to the touch to him, even after being painted for a month.....So once again, starting over. LOL Words cannot express how thankful I am to MikeO and his friend for coming out here, and then volunteering to come out Saturday...You both are amazing I REALLY appreciate your efforts
Sorry for not makin it down this weekend - got busy cleaning the storage unit and packin parts for the Billetproof show.
We didn't get a lot done on Sat. but we got a bunch done before the ran on Sunday .Ask Kustombuilder about his new kustom terry cloth carb filter Now if I can just get everybody over here to work on my car .
before we even started workin on the paint yesterday Mike asked how long since we painted the green the first time. i told him a month or better, he said it still felt soft. well, after getting it ready, respraying the white base and then starting to respray the green the original green (and white base) started to lift right off from the underlying color. i have my suspisions as to why but i don't want to start publicly trashin the guy who painted it before cause i don't know for sure. at any rate, we'll get it fixed up. Mike really knows his***** and i am confident that with his guidance it will al come out ok.
MikeO...looks like FILLER work! But do yourself a big favor and protect yourself from the isocyanates and solvents in the paint and clear! You like to paint? So did I...but now I'm paying the consequences for not dressing properly. You even absorb the***** thru your eyes! I can't spray now without major headaches and temperment issues etc, even WITH protective gear on! You have obvious talent. Don't waste it man! Protect yourself. Once you GET sick...your screwed for life as far as painting professionally. Bill

[ QUOTE ] Thanks for the complements I had a great time and seen alot of cool stuff but that A NEEDS to get finished [/ QUOTE ] It's ok, I know you meant to say that BUG needs to get finished. Common mistake, happens to the best of us
The bug is cool but it dont compare to that A and we know the bug will be done soon so I'll just try and push for the A I think mike needs to have a thrash to do nothing but that next
I dunno if he'd let everyone touch the A - it's his baby Never know though! Can't wait to meet your wife this weekend, she sounds like my kinda girl!
Glad to hear the "Gay Michigan******es" have another talented and very cool guy hanging around. Looking forward to meeting him this weekend. I'm thrilled the bug is heading in the right direction and looking forward to seeing it completed and on the road soon.
[ QUOTE ] Can't wait to meet your wife this weekend, she sounds like my kinda girl! [/ QUOTE ] I dont know for sure if she is going or not yet I think she is getting tired of car stuff all the time Im hoping she'll go .at autorama she even striped for a little while and painted a pic of the mack flamed brush I think with more women being there she will have more fun
Ok I am new here and must be missing the inside joke. What the heck is with the "Gay Michigan" Stuff.

[/ QUOTE ] just making lite of a little******** match between me and a California guy a long while back. he said we were "Gay Michigan******es" and the rest of these goofballs (Donzie, Fab32, Fuelpump and Hatch to name a few) adopted it as their new monicur. the California homo and i have since made nice and we have adopted him as an honorary "Gay******"!!
