The Gate Job fliptop car went up for auction and got 176,000 for the car. The car in the pictures above was Pete's first car, he bought this one from Dyno Don, and raced it in the 1966 season then he got the 1966 comet cyclone fliptop car in 1967 and raced that till the middle of 1967 then got a 1967 bodied comet cyclone car and raced that till the end of 1967 and then got a 1968 cougar and raced that until 1969. This pic came from the Modified Production thread......It's a local car. Moody, Jones and Dougherty 1969 E/Modified Production Pontiac Firebird, taken in 1971 at an NHRA points meet in Milan Michigan. Car was a National Record Holder. Drive by Sam Jones, owned by Sam Jones, Dale Moody, and Wally Dougherty out of Washington, Indiana.
The first shot was taken at the "PINKS" tv show 2008 at MILAN. Its my friend Art's HOTWHEELS wheelstander. Done much the same as the little red wagon except it runs a Chrysler blown 440 and not a HEMI!.It was shown on both the PINKS and PINKS ALL OUT shows. A very quick shot both times but a good wheelie!. Mel
I love Milan, this was the first drag race I ever went when I was a kid. My dad use to race there all the time back in the 60's This my dad's old 63 1/2 factory lightweight that he use to reace at Milan. Then in the late 80's my dad and his friend use to race this car. I got to ride in it when I was 9yrs old and I was hooked ever since.
You guys have some sweet old pictures. I can't wait to go to Milan today. I will get some better pictures of the track.
...and yet more: Can't wait for this year's event;wish the S. F. was in shape to take there for a couple of p***es.
Friday night racing. Does anybody else have the problem where the manage attachments part won't let you upload certin pictures or if you try to upload to many pictures it fails?
Was out looking for old Milan photos and found these. I was the "staff photographer" for Cliff in 66. Is the car in this post the Mr. Persistent Thunderbird? Loved that car before he went "funnycar" with it.
