    if you wanna move your engine back get an engine cover from a van, cut it to your fit. if you're small enough you could put the engine where your shifter sits now

    Never tried that on a real car (though it has crossed my mind)- but it does work pretty well on a few 1:25 model kit I've built with big, goiter-like firewalls! Probably wouldn't do much for foot room, though.

    Maybe a little tame for this thread: Engine set back 2", body set back 1", front wheels set forward 1".

    the old rules for engine set-back in NHRA went like this gas coupe & sedan 10% of wheelbase setback from the forward most most sparkplug to the spindle centerline. Alteraed class 25% of wheel base from front plug to spindle centerline & comp coupe & sedan engine forward of the driver.

  16. The car had 52% of the weight on the back half before I moved the motor back 6"...Wonder what the % is now?

    this was as far as i could go and still fit in my car without sitting in the trunk!!!not much room with only a 92''wheelbase!!!

    Your a little off on your math. 10% of 115" is 11.5" NOT 15".

    I had talked to a friend about set back of a 300 inline six in the falcon. The other option is keeping it forward and putting electric fan on front of radiator... Setback puts more on backend...
     

  23. Frank is right, simple math.

    This engine is getting set back a little more and will be @ 11" when screwed down. It'll a ton for this streeter but to make 10% puts it somewhere near to the back edge of the dash board. That makes it loose the stealth effect and too much for a dailey.

    Somehow I missed this thread 2 years ago!
    Lotsa great cars.

    When doing the 40 I figured it better to setback the heavy caddy engine,
    since its twice as much as the stock flathead!

    I think its 10 or 11 inches,
    the square pads in the front are for the stock motormounts a ford flathead.

    It has been in hibernation for a year and is about to get its place back at the shop,
    and the first thing is to finish the firewall.
    Since the 40 firewall angles forward,
    I sectioned 1+ inch from the top part and 2+ inches from the bottom part,
    readjusting the angle to suit.
    Definite pain in the ass.
