Technical Miller sync 210 ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by CG, Jul 3, 2014.

  1. I was thumbing through the Sept 2014 Street Rodder at the newsstand and read an article
about the Miller Syncrowave 210 Tig/Stick Welder (auto line 120-240) written by Covell.

Pretty cool set up, but a little pricey on Millers website. Is there a better place to get prices on Miller welders? They show suggested retail, and I'm sure you can save some money purchasing online from a reseller or wholesaler.

Edit ... Just found a good price at CyberWeld ... anybody use them?

Read the same feature in Street Rodder ( a magazine I haven't bought in well over a year). What was the price on the unit? Here is a related question, that I've asked before. If I buy a TIG unit and set it up in my garage (YES, it is wired for it)will it effect the TV or computer, can all three things run uneffected at the same time? This is based on the fact that the local welding shop kills my car radio when I pull into the parking lot. Bob

I will put my .02 in here, I bought a new Miller Plasma cutter and Mig at the same time and had nothing but problems out of both. The welder was sold and the plasma is just barely hanging on. I bought a new Lincoln and it worked better out of the box than the miller ever did.
Have used both Cyber weld and IOC with great service.

Check with your local welding supplier, I suspect they can compete price wise but even if you have to pay a little extra the service you will get with a local supplier beats the crap out of a "store in the cloud". Example, bought a new welder (in this case a Lincoln) and a new helmet and had a problem with the helmet (turned out the battery was bad) and when I went back they figured out the problem and just put a new battery. Also had some issues with the welder (operator error in all cases) and one of the staff members took time to explain what I needed to do. Not sure what it is worth but it did have value.

""(YES, it is wired for it)""
Means that you have the electric line for the welder dedicated for just the welder? Wires are run from service panel to welder receptacle in metal conduit? Receptacle metal box [each receptacle box] is wired to ground [rod in earth] and welder itself is also wired to ground? Metal welding table wired to ground?..Then you have it pretty much covered, but I would check welder company [Lincoln for me] for what they suggest which was what I used, pretty sure or picked the info out of an in depth wiring book...Either way when the town inspector came to check the wiring in my garage addition he said, "gonna have a welder, eh?"....So in my case I have not had any issues, the dedicated line runs right down the middle of the house, from the service panel to the garage receptacles with all the stuff [Modem, router [with wireless], my computer, wire less, ect] all around under and above and nothing has gone south except from age, myself included....

MY BOC gas place got me a good deal on a trade in ( job shop was upgrading and traded in 4 units ) syncrowave 250 several years back ( bought for about 1/2 of new ( 2500 ) with water cool setup ) , also gave me a warantee on it and allowed me to try it out in there shop before buying the unit .and when I did have a problem they stood up and came out to the shop to see what might be the problem could be .and fixed it . only thing between the used and new unit was the case was a little dirty , but they went thru and checked and cleaned the interior out . but if you can afford new try to stay local as they will try to help you as if you buy online you might have to get service on line or wait for there service man gets dispached to you . .

  10. Thanks for the insights guys. If I pick up something like this I can give all my other smaller welders to my sons, and only have one high quality unit to work with.

I have a buddy that welds for a living, he does all kinds. Maybe Ill hire him (if hes up to it lol) to come over and give me and the nephews some up close instruction. If I get it Ill post some pics up of the "classes"

Cyberweld is completely reliable, They are the internet store of my old local welding supply supply place in Linden NJ, J.G. Goodliffe. Never a problem with them, either in person, or buying on the 'net.
