My Miller syncrowave has a problem. When you push the pedal I get a shot of full power, even though i just tip into the pedal. I also have my knob turned down to the lowest power setting? Anyone got an idea? I switched with a friends pedal feed and the same problem was still there. Thanks in advance.
I had a simular problem a few years back with my Lincoln. It was the reaostat on the machine went bad not the pedel. The Wizzard
best thing I can recommend is check polarity first. For TIG welding carbon steels you should be in DCEN Both the amperage and output switches should be in the REMOTE position High frequency switch in the momentary up position (on my Syncrowave 250) Amperage dial should not be set any higher than the rating of the torch, but you can set the dial lower to limit power and have finer tuning with the pedal. Crater time switch OFF AC balance set at 3 Arc Control also OFF If that doesn't help I can recomend a repair facility.
Steve, who are you using for repairs? Im thinking it's got to be in the setting switch as mentioned above since I have eliminated the pedal.
Phoenix Welding Supply is one of the recomended Miller repair facilities When my LTEC shit the bed I took it to: Allstate Electric, 6025 W. Monroe Phoenix, 602-233-0500. Or if you want look up Dick Berubee he does house calls. Be aware all of these guys are about $100 an hour and Dick charges for commute time.
Thanks, I figured I would use Phx welding, those guys are always nice to the polarity challenged like myself.
While I'm thinking about it. I had an old AeroWave that had terible porosity problems at high amps. Could weld sheet just fine but nothing thicker than 14 gauge. We went through everything, gas, torch and whatnot. Had Berubee come out and fiddle with it for two hours and nothing. I got the big idea to hit the main AC/DCEP/DCEN switch with some good old electrical contact cleaner and that fixed the problem! these things collect dirt like a bug zapper. Could just use a good cleaning?!
Mine took a shit on me awhile back also. Would only do it with alum., steel would weld fine. The high freq. is shot on mine after mabe 4 hours welding over 5 years. $400 - $500 to fix. OUCH!!!
glen, try posting this at http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/ it is run by hobart that has the same parent company as miller. there are miller factory techs that answer questions on that board. another miller board is ask andy on the miller website. good luck jim
