My niece has been posting photos on her facebook, I didn't get to go (darned my impoverished luck), but live vicariously through her photos every year... ...so there's this miniature 53 chevy bel air hardtop...just curious if anyone knows details on this thing?
I've seen articles on a guy who scales down cars as HIS car hobby. A few years ago I caught part of a Rod & Custom Mag. tour and ran the day starting at Heitz shop and ending at Hopperstats shop. A guy (I believe the same guy in the article) had 3/4 scale 46 Ford convertible. Very accurate and well done, I believe the drive train was a Datsun. BILL RINALDI
At first glance I was thinking, what are you talking about mini, until I noticed the guy standing next to it. That's crazy, the amount of work that it would take to create that would have to be insane, it looks so well proportioned.
He was at Salina, Ks KKOA show. 3/4 scale, ALL scratch built. Also has a 50 merc too, I believe. He drove it from Mo. to the Salina, show.
That's a minature '54. The '53 grille teeth are rounder and wider, and the turn signals are round instead of oval. Pretty cool regardless.
looks like something Ernie would build. From Maricopa AZ , as I recall. his health is not too good , last I heard
Gene built that he's a local guy here and just finished it. He is from pleasant hill mo just outside of Kansas City I believe. He comes up to our local show every month at the shop, the car is 100% scratch made and is powered by a Toyota 4 cylinder. Said it'll do 100 mph. Super nice guy and was helped along by the guy who has done all the other cars
Ha...My stepdad put a Chevy ll Nova 'banger in his full fendered '29 roadster while he rebuilt the 283. (90K miles) Mom said he shouted swearwords she never heard before on the long uphill grade toward Reno ("Last Bash" run) Performance (80 MPH 'all day long') is reason for the Toyota engines.
