Crafty B, how full is your plate? I have some nice molds made and am looking for someone to "make the parts happen". The molds are made for sand casting or plaster casting. If you have any interest or can lead me to someone that can pull this off shoot me a PM and I can send pics of molds. Thanks, Lon

this is the first shifter I made last year and never really did much with it,the arm was straight and rather boring so I put a little arc in it and machined up the knob and it looks much better second time around

  9. Those Football® (hint hint) lights look great, different from E&J, like over 20% different...

I like the beehive caps too, and the I-beam shifter.

    Hi Guys
production update on the 1/2 scale lights. I have the first set of the cnc cut lights and they turned out awsome. The quality of the machine work is first class, the fellow that Im working with was my apprentice back when we both worked in tool & die some 15 years ago and now he has own CNC shop..so he is going the extra mile. The machining on the lights is so close in tolerance that the parts will interchange between themself. The front bezel will now screw on to the body i instead of being bolted from inside but this will happen on the next run of lights. If you are interested in a set pm me for more info

update!!! I have changed foundrys and the new one is owned and run by a couple of hot rodders!!! so this will help getting the rough castings to the machine shop quicker than my current condition. I sold the first set to a fellow hamber and he shot me a pm last night and he loves them!! so if you are ready to get a set check out the website

Crafty B, man you do nice work, but I'd be careful about making the gas caps, they are a lot like Joe's at Crime scene choppers and I think he has it copy righted.

I don't think you can copyright an item...copyright is for written or printed/displayed media.
Now you may be thinking of trademarked. But trademarks applie to names and symbols used to uniquely identify something.
Finally, you may be thinking of patented.
However, it has to be a unique product or new way of doing something. The over-center lock gas cap has been around for quite some time and has been in use in racing circles since the early days of the automobile, so it's unlikely the CSC cap is patented.

Not saying it's not, just saying unlikely.

I have talked to a few patent attorneys and you have to lay about ten grand on the table before he or she will start any serious work for you.

Some of this stuff is really cool. I like the mini E&J's.

  18. If you would like to protect your design you should look into filing a design patent, these are relatively inexpensive in the ip world ($3-5K) vs $20K for a utility patent. The design patent protects the aesthetic appeal of the design but does not cover any of the functionality of the design.

PM me if you are looking for a patent attorney, I can likely recommend one in your area.

Thank you for the info guys. Flat Ernie you have covered it completely and I did not reinvent this cap as stated above it's been around the racing scene forever..I just made my version of it. Im not going to protect my designs with design patents at this time because like all trends they come and go and the nostalgic scene is whats happening now.... but could be gone tomorrow.

    thanks Crafty

I made this cap today and it is a reproduction of a Roger Beck/Halibrand style cap. This cap came with a large fill hole and I casted the center smaller and machined the hole for a 2" dia press in hose flange. The orginal style locking hardware is CNC water jet cut from 304 stainless.

Here is the latest part from my shop. I was working on my duece and want somthng different than the generic buggy spring mounts that I was using. I made the pattern and had the parts cast out of A-356 ..the foundry tells me that it's the best aluminum for casting. The mount should lower the car a couple inchs from stock.

The small lights would make great side mirrors.
