GOOD MORNING Anybody out there have any pictures or memrobilia from MN DRAGWAYS or TWINCITY DRAGWAYS THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
I have a golf ball size piece of the starting line asphalt as a permanent fixture on my desk. My partner has most of the photos, time slips, newsletters, etc. from when we ran A/D there in the early to mid-60's.
Worked as a pit rat for John Foster for a few years. I've posted most of what I've got already in the drag cars in motion picture thread. Check it out, but be prepared for a long session as the thread is over 10,000 posts
I have the hand stamp from Minnesota dragways. The sports car club I use to belong to ran Auto-xs there after it was closed down as a drag strip and until Yahama bought it. I also have shoe boxes of black and white photos from about 1957 till about 1962 I took as a kid. I should realy get thoose in a album. jim h
Try this website. This is run by the Ron Johnson who just recreated Tommy Ivo's "Barnstormer" rail. http://bigyohnsracing.com/early-years3.shtml
I have a 20 lb piece of the drag strip & part of the fence from twin city drag strip.................Rich
Ran my Mustang there in 64&65,damn that was fun.Good buddy Donnie Ingersoll was the announcer back then.Fuck I'm getting old
I was just there the other day................ At the compost site that is on a corner of the land that WAS the track. A housing devolopment takes up the rest of the land. It was fun going to the compost site BEFORE the housing development was there, because the road to it went right past the end of the strip that was still there being used as a test grounds for Yamaha. Even the timing tower could still be seen. That was less than 10 years ago!! When I was 5(1975), we moved about 3 miles as the crow flies from the track. On weekends, you could hear the roar or the fuelers at our house. Coon Rapids only got more built up between our house and the track as the years passed. I can understand why it got closed...unfortunately not everyone loves the sound of a fueler!
I've got a few photos from there taken in about '64-65 that I'll try and find later. I know that I have a few of Jerry Boldenow (Cassady & Boldenow), Tom Hoover and Doc Holliday. We ran Modified Production so of course I have some shots or our car and some of our competitors. That track is where I fell in love with cars. I didn't get interested in drag racing because I loved cars, I got interested in cars because I loved drag racing. Naturally enough that meant I dug street driven hot rods.
Anyone remember a white '55 Chevy M/S named Snow Job? Just found the car and current owner would like a pic
