  5. A rubber rake was common in the 60’s. My college car, a ‘57 BelAir tudor, I built after my freshman year, with the 327, 3 speed from my Model A Tudor. I got station wagon wheels for the back with the biggest tires that fit. The wagon wheels were an inch wider the stock, but were obvious to those who looked, along with the bigger tires. The car had a typical California rake, with 14” black wall tires, black rims and baby Moons. Next were big and little narrow whites with the same black wheels and baby moons. An extra pair of wider steel wheels and 7” slicks for strip use only, next again were 14x6 Americans for the rear only, hoping to buy15x8.5s for the rear when adequate money was available, but it never was. I got my engineering degree and a few months later the draft notice in 1968. Hello Vietnam. All those years, I never had the same sized wheels or tires in the front and back. Money was a factor, but so was the intended look.

Borrowed wheels from the Malibu. never actually used except for the photo.

Even this kustom painted Olds had big and little wheels. My buddy was an awesome painter, but this job burned him out.

My dad’s ‘56 with wheels and 5.60/8.20 tires from my Model A, just playing around. That truck disappeared when I was in VN.

In my case it was just a case of what I could find cheap in the sizes I wanted to run.

I'm kind of selective about certain mismatched wheel combos but your right, narrow alloy fronts with painted steel rear wheels were quite common throughout the 60's on drag cars.

^^^^^ Or on actual street/strip cars that I would think were more plentiful in the 60's. That 57 wagon that loveoftiki posted is perfect. It is plated and in the driveway, and suggests to me that it would normally have the Radirs and whites all round but, "Right now I've got some business to take care of and you might not want o mess with me".

  15. Hence the trophy on the hood…killer pic I thought

I like the mismatched look. Rears are a set of used 15x8 smoothies. I wanted old Fenton or Ansen 5 spokes for the front but couldn't find any in the size and lug pattern I needed and ended up with new Rockets. Going to replace the front tires with some blackwall DB Auburns, the pie crusts in front will be better match for the slicks.
