I don't know, but there's definitely a few differences. One that sticks out the most is the door corners!!

The first thing that I noticed was the new car's tailights are level. The original car's tailights slope down more toward the rear.

It's hard to criticize that Merc though, it's a beautiful job.

The tailight differences were what I noticed first too. They also seem to stick out further than the original. Maybe not even the same lenses.

Either way, they both look great. I would hate to think that someone would redo a original Barris w/out keeping it original, but who knows?

Yep, it's for sale. Nice car, but not the original.

  15. That car was posted last year by PsychoBilly, he did some work on it for the builder.

the chop is different too, look at how different the rear quarter windows are in shape, plus the Barris badge is missing, I'd be sporting that!

I grew up in San Pedro and know the Dave Bugrain Merc very well and this isn't it. It's a nice near miss clone of the original Merc that was build over a period of time at the Barris shop in Hollywood, CA.
I've been tracing this Merc for the last two years, I have talk to five different owners to date. I'm searching for the last two guys who purchased it in Southern California, this cool old Merc has never left the general area where it was build.
**Guys posts here have pointed out a lot of differences in the two Merc's, the biggest give a away is the East Coast style spots lights which are fake Cal-Kustom types, the real Miss San Pedro had real Appleton's.** Take a close look at the real cars tail pipes and the detail in them, the clone doesn't have the detail work. If, the guy is passing it off as the real Miss San Pedro buyer bewear otherwise a nice Merc.
    **Sorry guys big time clone**

Differences I can see is the obvious curve in the lower corner of the door, trim length, skirt size, three trim pieces missing on the skirt,Barris badge missing, tail light and rear end treatment, spotlights, rear quarter window shape is definitely different, and the rear bumper and exhaust tips.Hell of a nice clone though.

  21. I heard from a friend of mine who worked Dave B's brother that this car went to the crusher.

Jeff - this is only a rumor and no proof to date that's it's true. Read my posts on the Merc and the thread "The Lost Mercurey"

Jeff - I also know Dave's brother Carl, Carl traded the Merc for another car. I've traced the Merc through five owners so far and there is no evidence of it being crushed. If, it was crushed, who crushed it, when was it crushed (date - year) it's easy to say it was crushed with no proof. I grew up in San Pedro and never heard this rumor about Dave's Merc. My money on it being a RUMOR.

JeffSled / 00Mack - I'm tracing at this time two guys who lived in the Old Los Angeles strip area of Torrance, Ca. So far no proof of the existence or the demise of Dave's Merc. It may all come to a dead end, the guys I'm tracing are not the boys next door types. I have lots of information on the Merc that will be released at a later date in a national small magazine. It takes a lot of time when your tracing an old car and things go slow at times, some clues turn up great information and other fizzle.
