As far as I know there are a handful of original 50s/60s Customs from the northwest still around. Most of my knowledge though is cars from around the Portland area. Cars I know still around are: "My Blue Heaven" - 59 Ford "Seaburst" - 57 Ford "X51" - 49/50 Ford "Miss Elegance" - 55 Chevy Ron Hing's 56 Chevy Convertible I know a clone of Madam Fifi is in the works. There are a lot of mild customs running around that I can remember the names to and there are some still hiding in garages somewhere.
I haven't seen anything recent, there was quite a lot of internet chatter (drama), about its restoration (not by RM) some years back, the guy was on here for a while. Not sure Russ has a lot of good things to say about it. I'll just say Google it.
2017 Portland Roadster Show Special old looking Gas Station was constructed and the previous years Hall of Fame inducted cars were placed in it.
2016 Sacramento Autorama - This was a show we were excited to attended but afterwards I don't think I will ever go back. Was not impressed with how things were ran during the course of the weekend.
Only good thing to come from Sacramento that year was this nice article done on the car: http://www.speedhunters.com/2016/02/miss-taboo-throwback-tri-five/
Another nice online article on Miss Taboo, this is pretty much the same article from Traditional Rod & Kulture https://www.hotrodhotline.com/cj-carliles-“miss-taboo”-1956-chevy-custom#.W9vMcPZFxu0
The video game company Turn 10, the company that is creators of the Forza franchise for Xbox did a feature on Taboo as well during its unveiling show in Portland. https://www.forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/hma_4_17_14
Taboo got a little blurb in the newest Goodguys Gazette from when the car won the "Way Cool" award at the Pacific Northwest Nationals. Only one error in the caption on the cars carburation. Good pic though of my grandfather and I crossing the awards stage.
Thanks! Not much progress now at the moment, just put the cover over the car. Next show planned to take the car to is the Spokane Speed and Custom show in Spokane, WA in April. Busy working on the two Chevy pickup projects in the garage currently.
well today marks the 5 year anniversary of the when the scramble to get Taboo back together took place. We were starting to get the interior in the car and hood finally bolted on. Still had to upholster the trunk at this point. Still had the show display to create as well.
Found that MSN did coverage of the Goodguys Show and Picked Taboo as one of its "Hottest Rides" https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/cla...cific-northwest-nationals/ss-BBLDdc7#image=16
Visited Portland in early November, took a side trip thru Oregon City and stopped at Mike's Drive In for a burger. There was a big Dale Moreau photo of "Miss Taboo" hanging on the wall in the dining area - very cool! Great thread, lots of history and neat photos of a gorgeous custom. Thanks for posting.
Yeah we ran into Dale right after the photo was placed in the Drive in. He ended up with a extra print of that pic and gave it to us.
Great story. I've seen Miss Taboo at shows when I'm also setting up. Never get tired of looking at it and always take in more with each viewing. COOL CAR
What an fantastic story! Thank you so much for sharing such a complete history with all those amazing pictures.!
2014 when I took the pic of Miss Taboo, a pair of 1931 Chrysler Imperials. Don't know if you were there but the last couple years at the roadster show. 2018, four red supercars in the Beaches display. 2017, four black convertible Fords. Also at Forest Grove but don't remember when you were there. 2018 FG, '55 Belair convertible and a '57 Ford Fairlaine 500 E-code convert. 2017 FG, '67 Lincoln convert, '71 Mustang 429SCJ convert. '60 Chrysler 300F convert 2016 FG '72 yellow Pantera and a yellow '69 Shelby GT500 convert. I've done those 2 shows for the last 5 years with different cars each time. Not my cars but from a large collection I care for. View attachment 4140120 Next year I'll take a couple others and maybe my '58 Corvette that was a Portland Roadster Show class winner in 1979 & 1981. Formerly owned by 1990 Portland Hall of Fame member and my friend, Doug Sukau. RIP
I remember the Chrysler's and the Red cars in the Beaches display. I remember the Forest Grove cars as well. I have a restored 68 Camaro I have shown other years. Also CJ and I are the heads of the Hot Rod and Custom section at Forest Grove now for the past 2 years.
What a staggering accomplishment and to have the COMPLETE history on the original build as well. It is a true iconic custom that has spanned many decades.
Thank you, it was pure shock when we bought the car back in 2009 when Ron brought out that box full of all the old pictures. We knew the history of the car, but had no pictures. So it was truly amazing to see all the old photos and then be able to document the cars life of the years.
It makes the car so much more interesting when you have history. But history with photos. It doesn't get any better than that.
Yes pictures just help make the stories real. They also filled in a bunch of big holes on the cars history. We had no clue the car had been wrecked twice. So to see pictures of the wrecks were awesome.
